there is absolutely no reason to run that rich. not when you have the ability control your timing correctly.

I have tuned many cars over 400 and even over 500 whp on pump gas right at 11.8-12:1 AFR without any reliability problems.

I have no reservations about the AFR, Steve's been doing this a long time and his track record is pretty damn impressive.

His reputation speaks for itself.

Ideal and conservative AFR for a turbo car such as this is 11.8-12:1. Not so conservative is 12.3-12.5:1.

I think people are often misled when it comes to AFR and pump gas vs. race gas. Often I see people try to combat detonation in regards to running it richer. This is not the correct way of tuning an engine.

Anything Richer than 11.8:1 is actually no safer, if its correctly tuned.

Chris, glad to see good results, and I'll talk to you soon

Interesting theories of tuning.

Every tuner has his her own style

A/f is often something that you can adjust depending on timing and in the case of a IX the mivec mapping

To me the dyno results show me that this tuner is skilled and takes his time which are good points and no one sholuld second guess his work without specific data

I do not think there is a right or wrong answer as to how to approach a tune, as I said there are diffenet ways of approaching tuning

As for this car, I am pleased that the mail in base Buschur Flash did so well on this car as the a/f curve and dyno shart looked right on the mark for a mail in reflash - which by design is conservative by nature.

Of course, what happens on the dyno is only part of the story, careful testing on the road is critical. I have found that stock ecu Evos like to be on the rich side to run without excessive knock counts.

As for high whp cars, my own evo which makes in excess of 900 whp to date always runs in the low 11/1 a/f range, I see no reason to run it lean.

I, personally, like to set up cars significantly richer but that is just my style

Al

by the way al, i didn't mean any disrespect when i was talking about the gains, i was very very happy with your mail-in. I mean I trapped 112 on it, that's pretty damn impressive to me.

I gotta say though, the partial throttle driving has improved 100 fold. Absolutely no jerkiness.

Great results but cant really compare a cutom tune to a Base by mail flash thats not really fair. As far as the the Gator thing with BADEVO he is probably a Bulldog like myself.

Well all dynos read different

Its really not useful to compare numbers from one dyno to the other

A dyno is best used as a tuning aide to see gains or losses from individual mods changes and tuning adjustments on the same car

TRAP speeds are IMHO the best way to compare the power of two different cars - (assuming they are done at a similar elevation and temp)

I've always tuned my car for 11.8:1 I try to stay on the rich side of 11.8:1...like logs of 11.6-11.8... I'm pretty happy.

Great job Mase! Your reign of excellence continues.
