Twomix: i do plan on driving responsible and i will be driving to school because it will be my DD but i don't plan nor will i be giving rides to random kids or kids who i just happen to talk to. My friends who i hang out with as of now and always will be the only ones riding with me and the occasional girl but no one will be driving it other than me. WE already have a system where we switch off between who drives anyways so i wont be taking her out ever weekend. Speeding isn't one of those things i'm big on as it is.

If you're parents can punish you by grounding you or taking away your car, you're not ready to drive a car like an evo. Since when did not smoking or getting good grades translate to earning a car? When I was young it was expected that I wouldn't smoke and that I would get good grades. Sorry but in my universe the word "earned" means doing something outside of what you are expected to do/is in your best interest. As for this "oh they didn't get a car at this age, so they're just jealous", get over it. Yes you drive a nice car, but so what, you didn't earn it, it was just a matter of luck that you got born into a rich family.

Well I don't think an evo is right for you then. It's fast in a strait line and it's fast in the turns. If you don't know what you're doin, then you could get yourself into big trouble before you even know what happend. Search for a wrecked evo thread and see what you come up with. Start with a clean 2G and go from there.

the punishment thing is more of a tool for them to make sure i stay out of trouble. just like when you were little and your parents took away tv or video games or whatever it was that you wanted.

i know the car is fast and what the car was intended for but no matter the car i get i still plan on staying within the speed limit which is why i said speeding wasn't one of my things. If i want to go fast then i'll take it to the drag strip which is 20 mins away from my house or find the nearest auto-x course or something of that nature.

No matter how you slice it the Evo is too much car for you. Also, I'd be willing to bet if your parents knew the crash test ratings on the Evo they wouldn't buy you the car. Hell, seems pretty irresponsible of them to not know the ratings of a car that they're going to buy their son. Then again, it's pretty irresponsible of them to buy you a performance car in the first place.

Yes when I was younger my parents could take away my TV and video games, but that was because I was still young enough that I couldn't make my own decisions, I needed incentives as any young child does. If you are going out into the world behind the wheel of a 3000 lb, 300 hp car, your parents had damn well be viewing you as an adult, not some child they need to punish. I'm sorry, but at 16 you are still a child.

Even though your gonna be turning 17 and driving a year your nowhere's close to being an intermidate driver. Regardless what car your driving an amazing 92hp car to a 600hp beast your taking responsiblity for your actions. A simply sorry or a do-over isn't going to take care of things if you mess up and crash your car or kill a person. Driving an evo is serious business...it's a fast car and I honestly really don't think you can handle it. Sure your gonna say "But I a responible driver" yada yada yada...your young and that peer pressure is gonna bite you in the *** sooooooooo f'in hard with your buddy saying..."Come on punch it man just one more time"....Even when my cousin brought his evo over and it was my first ride in the car I even pressured him into doing it and the guy was 22 when he got it. Also it'd mean awhole lot more if you saved up your own money u earned and bought a car. If your mom is willing to drop 10k into a car...find something in that range. All these people telling you whats up is cause they have been around a bit longer and know a bit more. I'm sure there are things you did and the past and now are saying damn I should've listened.

I have been researching and reading up on the evo for sometime now because it is the car that i have wanted since i was about 13. Currently i drive an auto 1997 Mazda Protege with a grand total of 92 hp and i haven't had any wrecks or any tickets yet(knock on wood) and in Feb. i will have had a year of driving already. So the opportunity to get an Evo came up but i have to pay the $200 for insurance and a little bit on the car payment, which is fine by me. My mom wants to drop about 10g on the downpayment so we finance about $22,xxx. What i want to know is what ya'll think about this and please no flames i just want honest suggestions and advice.

p.s. i test drove a GG Evo IX SE over thanksgiving break in NC right outside of Camp Lejeune(sp) so my parents know what it's capable of because they rode in the back. My parents both told me that if i were to get this that anything i messed up in whether it be school or tickets that i will be grounded from it and my dad will drive it for awhile.

Well I Had My parrents help me Buy the Evo, when I was only making 20 grand a year, now i Make Much more and I pay them over $800 a month, at this rate i will have the car payed off in 2 years. I also Put gas in it and I buy All the Stuff like Tires and Oil and Filters and Any aftermarket parts, and I always wash It by hand. The Only thing They realy gave me was $2500 for my first car, which i bought a Non turbo MR2 and Promptly blew the motor, woops. So i bought a Turbo clip and Swaped out the Engine (kinda stupid it cost me $5000, w/ the Engine rebuild and every thing I did.) Then I sold the Car for $9000 and used it to get the Evo, my parents helped. Now i just have to give them the rest of the money. But You should pay for your car you will apreciate it more. I am only 18. Alot of people on this forum believe young kids, i.e. 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 should have evos, I think If they Have to Buy it or pay for it they will apreciate it alot more, I know i Do. My MR2 was bought pretty much by my parents, and I didn't understand what care was. ( the motor blew because the oil pump went, not my fault the previous owner never changed the oil and when i started driving the poor little 5s-fe couldn't hold up) Just don't mess up the Evo if you get one.

ROFL. Well people are making physcological assesments of both society and his parents without hearing their side of the story or thought process. Hell, there could be some reason his parents are getting him the car. He could be extremely responsible and careful, no one knows except him and his parents. You guys are going to have to take his word on it. People criticize his parents bc they are letting their son get a car with such saftey ratings but everyone else is just as guilty who drives an evo for putting their lives in the same amount fo danger as soon as they pull out of their driveway. It is a parents job to look out for the best interest of their kid but there are more important things to focus on when it comes to driving, such as drinking and driving.

Shoooooooot... Name me a 16 yr old that doesn't do stupid irresponsible things while behind the wheel of a car and I'll name you a L-I-A-R.

I moved out of my parents house 16 years ago at the tender age of 18. My old neighbors still talk about the shiz I used to pull and are still pissed about it TO THIS DAY!! All that mayhem was with a 1983 Pontiac Bonneville, which is a FAR cry from a 2006 Evo.

To answer the question at hand regarding getting an Evo at age 16 - No son, you'll shoot your eye out.

You know, there actually are 16 yr olds who aren't crazy about speeding--where are you from? Just b/c you're a speed fanatic, don't generalize.

My mom bought me a new Turbo AWD DSM when I was 18. I had never had a job and I didn't get good grades. I'm 34 now and trying to arrange my life so that I can buy my kids nice cars when they reach driving age.

Though if I had a 16 year old today I'd say they can have anything they want with stability control. So, closest to an Evo would be a Legacy Spec. B or R32.

Sure there are some 16 year olds that aren't crazy about speeding, but they don't drive evos. Honestly, if someone didn't car about speed or performance, why buy an evo?
