This implies that on some ocassions you did drive like a dumbass and this is the problem. At 16 people simply don't have the experience to know what to do when things go wrong. How many "I crashed my evo" threads begin with "I was just trying to pass someone when my backend went out"?

He was saying that all 16 yr olds drive like dumbasses and I was simply refuting his statement--I also said when I was 16 yrs old, I've never gotten a speeding ticket or wrecked my car or crashed into someone, implying that 16 yr olds can drive responsibly and safely. Why is this so hard to believe? Some people (including myself) are not enthusiastic about driving (aka speeding) even at young age and/or do not want to risk getting a ticket from speeding/reckless driving. Before anyone say that most/all evo owners buy the car for speed, I'm going to say that its not always true--I bought the car since I liked Evo as a whole, not necessarily for speeding/tracking/aggressive driving/whatever purposes.

Also, on your point about my driving habit--I CLEARLY said in the first post that I occasionally drive spiritedly (hard acceleration but not speeding) but not recklessly (speeding/reckless maneuvers) and that (to me at least) is not driving like a dumbass. I shouldn't have to tell you how idiots drive.

My point is, even some 16 yr olds CAN DRIVE responsibly and I just wanted OP to drive responsibly (or try to anyway since he's pretty much set on getting the car) and not like other majority of 16 yr olds out there

Its not the safest car and theres a very good chance that you are going to speed. Do you know how to drive a manual transmission? You have very little driving experience under your belt.

I know its not what you want to hear but im being honest. Its really hard to appreciate a car until one is fully responsible financially to pay for the car and I know most people on here would agree.

Imagine having to save for a downpayment, then make monthly payments, and on top of that pay high insurance rates, the maintenance, the gas, the mods, etc etc etc. You would think twice about driving the car like it wants to be driven (its really tempting sometimes )

I presume your father has his own vehicle? Then why would he need to drive your evo?

At your age even if I wanted to, I could not go into the dealership and finance an EVO. Therefore my parents would have had to help me out. Sometimes parents make deals with their kids, you know... score high on the SAT's, get into a good university, you can have any car you want. Heres the problem, safety is more important than you think at your age. Theres a good chance you are going to get into atleast one accident (it doesnt matter how good of a driver you are it doesnt necessarily have to be your fault) in your lifetime. Why not just go with something a little bit more solid, a nice V6 engine, side airbags, navi, 6 speed. Get some time behind to wheel, save some cash, get the title under your name sell the car, get an evo and have all the fun you want without having to worry about your dad taking your car from you

Do you want a medal for not getting into an accident? That doesn't mean you are ready for an evo.

I think by going a year with no accidents or tickets or anything like that shows you are doing something right. If you can get your hands on an Evo, go for it! It is such a righteous ride. Just don't shoot your eye out.

For all you other hypocrites that say they wouldn't take an Evo at 16 if it was presented to them - Paris Hilton drives a Mercedes SLR.

i'll be blunt like everyone else has been the last 5 pages of this thread, your too young for a car this powerful in its stock form, try looking at some old school turbo eclispes. or something to get you acostumed to the power. but really its your moms money and if shes going to hand it out to you by all means take advantage. im going to also have to agree with everyone else becarful we dont want to see you making a thread on how you smashed into a wall or tree.

no matter how long i drive my protege and then go to an Evo from there it is still a big jump from 90 hp to 280 hp so whether im 17 or 25 i still wont have the experience to drive the car until i actually do. like i said in the op i have drivin one before and yes it is very fast but even then i stayed below the speed limit. honestly though how many of you if you were offered an evo wouldnt jump on it? also about the accidents i was saying i have gone a year without them because i know plenty who wrecked within the first month as a matter a fact this girl got a brand new 06 4runner and was in a hit and run the first week.
