Really! I'll have to check the manual but my VIII never did this...

Yes luckiley I have heard horror stories. I started complaining right away as soon I smelt hot burning oil to the dealer. 2 weeks into this new evo. it leaked from day one. As I said my other one never smelled like that so I was concerned. Once it was brought in they saw the problems. This thing has been babied too, much easier driven than my VIII. I will keep you all posted

10k miles and everything's good.

Only issue was a peice of brake pad was stuck n the rotor or something from the factory. Took it in and they took care of it. I then got a lecture about drag racing (car was like 2 weeks old) - some dealers.... such a-holes with their assumptions.

As mentioned; mine also whines when it's cold out and doesn't shift all that smoothly. Once it's been a few miles everything is fine though.
Sometimes if I try to shift into 2nd or 3rd quickly, the tranny will make almost a 'pop' sound. I suppose that's it saying stop it, and I'm trying to slam the gear too fast? I'm lifting off the gas, fully depressing the clutch; etc. I rarely do it though.

Oh, and #2 Evo; I came back....

My car just clocked in 10k today.
No major problems except some rattles here and there but it's ok.

Once thing I've noticed is that my clutch engagement point is kind of high.
It grabs pretty good without any slippage but sort of concerend about it.
Maybe I have some air in fluids?...

ive had a few problems 4500 miles on the clock...

1st full day of owning it noticed it was next to impossible to downshift to 3rd w/out grinding... later on noticed when tryin to shift fast into 3rd at higher RPMs grinds! 3rd gear synchro's on its way out

4th day of owning the coolant line to the turbo started leaking

and about 3 weeks later went to shift into 5th and the shfit cable popped off the trany this has happened twice since!

other then that the car is amazing!

My evo 9 is running better than the day I bought it...15k and still going strong besides the clutch that I fried launching it numerous amount of times. The car is very solid for the most part.

I'd have to agree with sammykiller. I have already time and time again avoided drag challenges with my IX for that reason. I don't think these cars where made for drag initially. Not to say it can't be tuned to do so, but I'm willing to bet that part of that tune will be a tran. job. Especially with the clutch. As for cross road and street running, my IX has been ever so sweet to me thus far. Although if you're going to be buying a new one. I'd HIGHLY recommend doing your first oil change early in it's life.. say 500 mls or so. Just a thought.

I just purchased my IX and have 800 or so miles on the clock and have a shifting question.

I've owned numerous manuals and have experienced synchros failing before. When I shift into third, I get a softish grind from the shift fork area and not from the transmission itself. Is this the normal notchiness of the Evo or an issue? It doesn't always happen and usually happens when going 2-3 and not 4-3.

You're right, these are homologation cars for rallying that happen to be good at drag and open track racing.
