02 New Orleans Auto Show

Yesterday I went to the 2002 New Orleans Auto Show at the Superdome. I was looking around in the section and I saw a representative, so I asked him if he knew anything about the EVO VII? And he said that they will be here in about 12 months and supposedly in a GSR version and will be the fastest production car in America.

Well...I'd love to say the same, BUT....

I just got back from the Minneapolis Auto Show. I went over to the Mistubishi section and NO evo :soapbox: However they did have some pretty cool Xbox setups w/ Project Gotham on them so I kinda got to see the Evo.

The rep. I talked to didn't seem to know ****. He sounded exactly like your typical sales rep. This is what he had to say....

"We don't know much right now. We're expecting something sometime around Fall. The full Jap-Spec Evo is about 310 hp. I'm kinda worried about emissions though. It'll be between 260 - 280hp."

It was hillarious...as I was walkin away he said "Here...I'll give you one of my cards and we can talk later about gettin you into one of them". Of course I came right back and said "Nah, that's ok I already have a deposit down at Wayzata Mitsubishi". You guys should've seen him.....he looked like he was gonna break down and cry

Maybe fastest IMPORT production car in America? I can't think of anything that will be faster...

And yeah, the Z06 vette is faster that the j spec evo, not to mention what we get...it does 0-60 in 4.1 and 1/4 mile in 12.5 sec.

Why do we North Americans always JUST compare performance figures in a straight line and the vehicle that does it the fastest, we say has the higher performance?

Agreed, but judging from all the stats I've been able to dig up on both cars, there really is not that much of a difference, or as much of a differece as I thought there would be, particularly in the twisties.

Hmmmm.......with very little money I'm going to have a Viper eating, Z06 crushing 4 door sedan with a trunk. I LOVE IT!!!!

These aren't just production cars actually made in the US correct? I wouldn't compare an EVO to a Z06 anwyays unless you upgraded the EVO too since the Z06 is a Corvette Plus; mod an EVO to the same degree and see what happens they wouldn't be anywhere near the same page anymore; plus try sticking the rubber down with a Vette as compared to an EVO.

I was at the Auto Show today too and saw that there wasn't an Evo. Instead they had an OZ Rally on the pedestal spinning around. WTF was thinking? :soapbox:

The only thing I asked the reps there was why there wasn't an Evo on display. They said it was supposed to be there, but they didn't know why it wasn't. Whatever. I also didn't ask about the specs since I didn't want to hear a bunch of BS.

Hmm I have a copy of Evo (The Brit car mag (evo.co.uk) and CAR (another Brit car mag) and they rate the Evo as THE fastest production car in the world, point to point that is. That meaning from one place to another including, twists, stratights cambers, hills, bumps and everything else. They put it up against a 360 Modena, a Lamborghini Diablo AND a 911 GT2 no less. There was even a picture of an Evo chasing a Diablo and I quote, "The Evo does a suprisingly good job of keeping up with the Diablo" Yes, on a race track and a 1/4 mile, the Evo will surely lose. But point to point driving (rallying) was what it was designed for and it does it better than any other production car on the planet. After I put that magazine down (way too expensive $8 bucks each) I then decided that the Lancer Evo be my next car.
