Turbo Timers

Can somebody explain Turbo Timers for me?
  • What do they do?
  • How much do they cost?
  • Are they necessary when driving performance cars with turbo?

Almost everybody who posts their car's interior here has one and I've just gotten curious lately. Thanks!

1. Turbo timers simply provide you the ability to turn the key off in the car and go inside while the engine runs for a predetermined amount of time before it shuts off to allow time for turbo cooling. Some turbo timers even have other features but what is stated above is their primary function.

2. Anywhere from roughly $50 on up possibly cheaper but most well known brands will be upwards of the $50 mark.

3. No, they aren't necessary. They simply allow you to leave the car right after parking instead of having to wait for the turbo to cool before turning the key off. It's just a matter of convenience.

They are more like 70 - 150 bucks. I dont know of any TT's that cost less than 60 or 70.

I can get you any turbo timer you want for a very good price. Let me know.

Does that count for anybody? I've been putting off the TT for 2 months now and it's long overdue. I'll take one HKS type 0 please .

Greddy looks nicer =P i got the new greddy full auto timer on mine... the thing is greddy said that the eclispe harness will not work for our car... but... i dont know why they said that i think it might be bcuz of the other features other than the turbo timer cuz i did not have one of the wires connected ( speed wire ) i dont need that **** anyways cuz it comes out in KPH not MPH... my turbo timer runs perfectly FINE with the eclispe harness.. my voltage reading is correct.. my rpm reading is way off though cuz its not directly connected to the ecu cuz i didnt want that...

I have the blitz with the boost guage. I used the 2g Eclipse harness and it works fine. I like the boost based time mode. It adds time based on how much and how long you were in the boost. If I let it cool down before I stop, the time on the turbo timer dwindles to almost nothing. If I am in the boost hard for even a couple of minutes, it will sometimes get up to 2-3 minutes. When you are in the boost time mode, you get a bar graph on the display showing boost with the digits showing the time as it goes up and down. The blitz also has a small remote display that's easy to mount. I mounted mine on the left side of the dash in a blank spot by the headlight adjustment. I love it.

DUMMY QUESTION....IT ALLOWS THE CAR TO RUN FOR A SET AMMOUNT OF TIME AFTER YOU LEAVE YOUR CAR....................

SO YOU ALL ARE LEAVING IT IN NEUTRAL WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ON ONLY.....NOT IN GEAR I PRESUME, LOL

i ask cause i usually leave my car parked in 1st along with the parking brake

yes you obviously have to leave the car in neutral... only works on a flat surface.. if you park on a hill the TT might not be the greatest idea b/c the parking break is not meant to anchor the car...

most TT's turn themselves off if you dont have the parking brake up when you turn off the engine.

I'll get you guys a price on the Type 0 and Type 1 turbo timers. I know I can get you them cheaper than anyone else. I'm thinking around 120 - 125 plus shipping for the Type 1 WITH harness. Gotta make some calls...
