Respect of the EVO at an SVT Car show!!

Posted this in another thread but it seemed like a good story to share in a new thread..

Over the weekend I took my three year old son to a Ford SVT Owners Rally at a Ford dealership..He loves cars so
we strolled around and looked at some Cobras and what not..

son: Look Daddy, a Horsie...
Me: Yes son, it's called a Mustang..
son: Look Daddie, a snake!!
me: Yes son, its called a Cobra..

Pretty fun..Anyways, I get into my car and drive out of the parking lot to go down the road a bit to turn around..
As I make a u-turn , I notice these guys in the parking lot of the SVT show with a camcorder in their hand videotaping ME in the Evo...!

I decided to pull back in towards the entrance to the car show where they were standing and let them get a good look..

2 minutes later, I had the hood up, the kids camcorder running, and about 15 fricken people ALL over the Evo..

It felt good because everyone knew EXACTLY what it was, and had TONS of questions...everyone respected the car, and had lots of compliments!

Then we pulled out and the kids videotaped my swift exit and acceleration!!

My three year old got a kick out of it too!

contrary to popular belief, automobile enthusiasts that Hate and Like the Evo are not merely subaru people.

An automobile enthusiasts will dislike or like a car for certain reasons that may be or may not be explainable, but they will always respect the car. When it comes to the Evo, there is a bunch of hype, a bunch of fad, and a bunch of people that have no idea what it is about, its point, or what it can do. they are just here for the fad . i overlook these people readily, and have found/met a few "real" enthusiasts that know about the car. with the EVO now in the ranks of the Zo6 and Cobra, you are gonna meet more and more appreciative and informed enthusiasts. people that wouldnt buy an evo, cuz they are chevy or ford guys or porsche guys, but respect it cuz it does what its meant to do flawlessly.

On the same topic I read Hot Rod mag. The editors are trying to introduce new cars to the scene, "import 4 cyl." They have been testing the waters for a few years on and off. They showed some hondas and the like that were drag cars, Stuff like that.
The installed reader base of that mag must be cats in the 50+ range. Hotrod got so much heat when they show one of these cars, I find lots of these people are very resistant to believe or understand that V8 is not superior, Or just respect what someone else has done.
Just recently they battled the STI with the Mustang Cobra, I think it was Cobra. Anyway The import won.

A similar true story:

A few weeks ago I drive over to the Schucks auto part store near my home and park next to a brand spanking new one of these:

I admire it for a couple minutes and head inside to get what I went there for. When I come out there are a bunch of people standing around my car admiring it. When I get to the car I tell them they ought to be looking at the Ferarri and not my Evo because they're a dime a dozen. They said the Evo is a real drivers' car. The guy in the Ferarri then comes out of the store, gets in his car, takes off and then proceeds to wind the thing out to redline. It sounds cool. I get in my car and do the same. I doubt it sounds as cool. When I catch up to the 360 at the next light he takes off briskly and I'm all over him. He finally parts ways and gets on the freeway never to be seen again. The Evo does have respect.

I went to a Toyota and a Mazda dealer couple weeks back. All of the Toyota salespersons ended up circling the Evo and talked about it. The Mazda salesperson was more interested in talking about the Evon than trying to sell the Mazdaspeed Protege I was test driving. He made a comment that I decided to quote here: "Evo is the God!"

I posted this topic like in May..I can't believe it's back..

The fact that everyone was all over the EVO felt good.

I can't tell you how many times someone has nodded approval..

COUNTLESS.

I have to admit that I get a kick out the amount of rubber-necking people do when I drive by people on the street. Groups of people follow the Evo, I can see them staring when I glance in my rearview.

I attended a porsche club event once thinking, "These people are going to turn their nose at anything that's not an air-cooled 911". However, most of the people knew what the Evo was and had great amounts of respect for it. From my perspective, it's usually the STi/Srt people that have bashed the Evo the most.
