I got pulled over by the CHP when I was living in California for the stock exaust. He got on his hands and knees looking for the cat. No ticket but he grumbled a little. I celibrated by putting on a full catless exaust and intake the next week

I really knew that it was because of a call from my case officer who started out the IA investigation.

Happy holidays!!
What is IA?

Wow, and cops wonder why so many people dislike them... because they jump into a situation without any prior knowledge and start making accusations and assumptions. Few things bother me more than someone trying to argue a point with out any knowledge to back it up. You would think since cops are supposed to keep an eye out for illegal modifications on cars that they would actually know 1 damn thing about cars to begin with; fools.

Dont get me wrong I love cops to death. Hell I am dating one. But for the most part they have little to no interest in these type things. Just like many know to nothing about the weapon they carry on their person. They know tap rack bang or shoot to silde lock. That what they are taught. Then the "community" gets into an uproar about excessive violence. Much like us they get a focus and boy they drive it home. The big thing around here is street racing. Damn ou figure I am in a military town full of folks that just got back from deployment. They all have money now and they are buying fast cars and using them. Cops see wing they see fast they get outta control. So rather than argue I use my nicest yes officer voice. Try to talk my way out of it and then file my complaint for harrasment. The way it works these days its all about community policing. If the folks aint happy then the commish aint happy. The cop is the whipping boy here.

To answer your question..yes he can give you a ticket for an aftermarket BOV. Why? it does not conform to epa standards in california..you can not vent gases to atmosphier. Yes we know its only air. However EPA has it written so that a BOV can be ticketed..however using a bov like the Greaddy that can be recirculated you got them beat...
I had a nice long conversation with a California cop about my modded subie several years ago..

When i was in high school, the School officer used to race with me and one time we both got pulled over for street racing in ATL. i lost my license until i turned 18, i dont think anything happened to him. Either way i had a b18 in my honduh and he thought it was a stock accord motor. now i have moved on to 4g63s. when your young cops love pulling you over

I can tell you it dont matter what state your in, when I drove from southern Arizona to Fort Jackson, South Carolina I got pulled over 8 times, out of the 8 only 1 of them was I in the wrong for speeding, the other 7 times it was because of the loud (stock) exhuast and the spoiler. the last cop to pull me over right after I passed the SC border was at least truthful about it, he said he had never seen my type of car before and wanted a closer look, I laughed and popped the hood for him .

cops "THINK" they know but dont. cop pulled into a local car meet in north county San Diego, and i was just getting ready too leave.

walks up to my car only(lots of other ricer civics out that night) and says "hey, i'm not going to issue you any tickets but would you mind popping your hood so i can show my partner what to look for"

i did and the only thing he said he would ticket me for was my IC piping. the guy shined his flash light right on the nozel to my meth injetion and didn't say jack about it. same with my HKS BOV.

i don't think they pay much attention in the class they are given for identifing modded cars.

and when my car was stock i got pulled for the modded stock exsaust.

In the city of tampa florida there is a statue against aftermarket exhaust. I think it is mostly the non turbo honda and neon guys with chrome plated 55 gallon fart cans under the bumper of a car with 104 wheel horsepower that draws the negative attention. I cannot see how that cop thought your evo was too loud. He was probably just jealous that the highway patrol b4c LS1 pursuit car does not perform as good as the evo
