Should I....or not?

A friend of mine who runs the local mall cineplex wants me to put my Evo in his theater for the opening of 2Fast, 2Furious. He said it will help attract attention before and after the movie plays.

It's just a stock Evo, not "riced" but he thinks it will attract lots of attention since my Evo is the only one on the roads in my area. It will be velvet-roped but I'm still worried that some haters might key it when no one is looking. There won't be any extra security around and this theater does attract some "ghetto" types during weekend shows.

He says it'll be fine because he'll be there open to close but I'm still not sure. He says the mall/theaters insurance will cover anything "major" but probably not paint damage due to vandalism. My insurance would but why risk premium increases.

On the positive side...it would be kinda cool to show my car to mass audiences and it would be really sweet to see my car shining under those neons in the lobby. Any opinions or things I should also take into considerations?

Tell him you want some cash and then stay in the lobby to make sure no one gets near it. Heck, it would probably be fun to people watch and see the "Hi Rev Tuner" dorks who go to watch a movie like that!

I would say go for it !
In my experiences working & participating in some car shows & working some booths in those car shows.....
MAKE SURE THAT THE VELVET ROPE IS BACK FROM YOUR CAR ENOUGH !!!!!
Some people will try & lean over the rope to touch the car ....... so put the ropes far enough away from the car so this is not possible.
Another thing ..... people like to lean on things!!!! Make sure that if someone happens lean on one of those poles, if the pole falls towards your car IT WILL NOT FALL INTO YOUR CAR !!!
Once that is taken car of .... tape some sighns on the ropes that say " DO NOT LEAN ON "
Put two sighns on your car itself that read ....
" PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH "
Hope this helps .....

They did that at the big theater here in Omaha (Oakview AMC for any Big O people reading) when the first one came out. The theater here has a nice big sidewalk/entrance area in front. They had a nicely modded Yellow Integra Type R and a nicely modded, and relatively new at the time, Blue WRX sitting out front. They weren't done up all FnF style though, so no big graphics, no neon, and no huge wings, so it was cool. Granted, neither of those cars were in the movie, but it was pretty cool seeing them. For people that knew what the cars were, it was fun to check them out. And for the people that didn't really know what the whole Import/Compact scene was about, it was cool for them just to see that its not just the movies that people have cars like that. Overall, it was pretty cool. They did have them roped off a good distance, and there were people sitting by them keeping an eye. But, like people said, as long as you rope it off good enough, and maybe get someone to keep an eye, you should be fine. I think that would be fun.

You should get compensation and the theater should cover any damage from vandalism.

Thanx for the input...just talked to my friend and the head of security for the mall and now it seems they want to park it outside the actual theater and in the mall's food court (still directly in front of the theater )

Now I'm torn....inside the theater would've been but I couldn't have gotten more than 6-8 inches of room between the velvet ropes and the car. In the food court I can rope off 1-2 feet but there will be MUCH more foot traffic and more chances for perps to trash my ride.

The mall has local police on Friday & Saturday nights but they aren't there "to give extra coverage just for my car" (quote from head of mall security)....Hmmm...no ****. And I have to work nights both days so I can't even watch over it myself.

The purple and red neon inside the lobby that would be reflecting off of the Apex silver has me thinking "Hot Import Night"ish cool, so maybe if they'll agree to keep it inside the theater it may be a go.

No compensation from the theater or but since I plan on showing the car off all summer long that's no big deal.

I personally wouldn't do it. I just don't trust the jealous and disrespectful mall rat punks enough to believe that they wouldn't do something to it (key it, throw food/drinks/pennies at it, whatever). And in the middle of a friggin' FOOD COURT?!?! With me not there to watch over it??? Ugh, I already have visions of it being peppered with grease spots from people throwing fries, Chick-Fil-A nuggets, etc. Any thrill I would have gained from having my nice new car shown at a theater all weekend would quickly be dashed if I found out during or after the weekend that it had been keyed, dented, or some other way vandalized.

I would do it if I had guarantees that nothing would happen to it, but that's not gonna happen, so forget it. Face it, there are just some people out there who have ZERO respect for others, and if they see that you have something nice and they don't, they want to destroy it. Whether you worked hard for it and earned it doesn't matter a bit...you have it, they don't, so they damage it to make you feel worse, which makes them feel better.

I'd rather be able to enjoy my car all weekend between work shifts and know that it is still "safe", rather than worry all weekend about whether my baby is getting screwed with.
