clutch problems please help...

My brother came over to my/his old house and his clutch pedal went to the floor and would not come back up as he was pulling into the driveway. He pulled it off the floor by hand and there was so much pressure behind it with the car on and off, that it was impossible to push back down. He also said that he could feel a vibration or something in the pedal when he would depress it.

He just had a clutch put in it earlier that night so obvioulsy they messed up, but I am trying to get some ideas in case they dont fix it for him or somethin. I have never owned a car without a clutch cable (except my evo) so I dont know where to begin.

begin by inspecting the slave cylinder.

there is no clutch cable as it is hydraulic. which acts just like a cable.

if the slave cylinder is on the tranny mounts properly, and the line doesn't have any kinks or anything, then most likely it is the clutch install (i would imagine thats the problem regardless). they can inspect it through the sight hole on the bottom and see if the throw out bearing is still in place correctly...

Same problem happened to me about 3 weeks ago. The clutch had to be replaced. Mine was not new, but the exact same thing happened with the pedal. Sounds like a problem with the install to me.

i know on some hydraulic clutches, you gotta bleed them (saturn, lol), it could also have an internal leak, any fluid noticed on the ground? as a mechanic, ive seen the accumulator valve get stuck, built up too much pressure and blew the slave, fluid was visible in that case however.

Yeah its my car he is talking about. I just did a 5 speed conversion with a exedy twin plate. I went to press the clutch and to the floor it went. I then pulled it up and theres a ton of pressure. I called the shop and they said this is common with exedy twin plates!? They suggested i pull on the fork till it clicks and then bring it to them. Well theres no way that thing is gunna click. I pulled it back a good inch and a half and there was nothing and it was harder than hell to pull. They mentioned some sort of clip that goes bad. And that this is why exedy twin plates arnt the best. Im pissed because all this work wasnt cheap...in fact it was damn expensive. And when it was working the clutch pedal vibrated horribly. When i would put slight pressure, not enough to depress the clutch. But just resting my foot on it, and it was vibrating bad, but when i would begin to depress it. It would go away, as in it wouldnt vibrate all the way down. Is this a usuall charateristic with twin plates? Or was that vibrating a sign that something was insalled wrong or lose? And when the pedal hit the floor it was that peice breaking or coming off?

sounds like the shop trying to blame it on the clutch rather take responsiblity themselves. Dont put up with that. Sounds like the TOB was installed incorrectly. They should fix it no charge

+1 Which means they would have to do the entire thing over again. I would make them pay for the towing back to their shop too.

^^Ryan, I suggest that when you bring it back there on Monday for them to fix it, you make sure that they can finsih it up in that day so you can stay there with it, and make sure that they put the Exedy twin disk in your car.
