Just installed Short Throw Shifter.
My wife got me a WORKS short throw shifter w/30% reduction and what a difference it made. I finally had the chance to install it today along with underhood & shifter bushings. At first I wanted to get the kartboy or b&m however I noticed that their shifters didn't have the integrated counterweight beneath the knob threads.
Performance:
The shift throw had decreased greatly and finally I don't have that
truck like shift throw. The shifting also is more crisp and precise,
this is probably due to the replaced bushings. You do need to
apply slighly more effort when shifting but it's not that bad.
Cost & Build:
The cost is a lot higher than say, the Authority SS however I do feel
strongly that "You get what you pay for." The WORKS SS includes
the upper pivot cup so you don't have to cut your stock one or buy
another. In comparing the WORKS SS to stock, they look near
identical.
Recommendation:
Highly recommended for any 5spd evo owners.
Props to WORKS for making a great product!
Future Advice:
Make sure you lube all friction areas well inclucing the endlinks,
pivot cup and underhood bushings. It would be a good idea to
order the endlinks also or buy them at your nearest Mitsu
dealership. A heavier knob would also help with the increased
effort.

Good write up, I was looking into short throw shifters. And I think you just helped me make my mind up.
Quick question why would you order endlinks? EVO newb sorry. And which aftermarket shift know would you personally go with?

It's just less of a hassle to swap out your stock endlinks to the new short shifter. Greddy counterweight shift knob

The works one looks exactly the same. And its the same length as stock.
I have the Authority and it is amazing. For hoe cheap it was, you cant go wrong. The only thing that sucks is that it doesnt have that angle at the driver.

The only difficult things about installing a short shifter, imo, is gently trying to remove the interior pannels. Other than that, the spring thingie that twists when you put it on popped *** I began to loosen the bolt that goes through the front of the shifter retainer. I never really had a chance to look at how it went back on before it popped off. But after 15 seconds of staring it was pretty obvious.
