they do have a drag being what they are, but the benefit of not trying to force the air to follow the shape of the car is a much bigger effect. the rear window is too big a slope for the air to follow, as is the back of the trunk lid, the wing suffers too, note the tabulator or gurney flap that is sold. the designed effect is to cut the air so it is not bound to the shape of the car.

why do you think the econ nuts design solar cars with such slippery shapes? air drag is big at speed. now take that slippery shape and try fitting four people in it. it will require aerodynamic bandages to even approach the original cd.
