Couple Quick Questions!

Hey Everyone, as of right now i own a '02 WRX with a JDM 2.5l with a 18g turbo.

My questions are now that i'm going to basic training here in between junior and senior year of highschool i'm going to have about $12k from kick backs and all that good stuff. But anyways here are my questions about evos cause i think im gonna get a 05 here pretty quick.

The Evo 8s had 16gs and the 9s hade 18gs turbos correct?

And BOV's are bad for evos just like they are for subarus?

And are there any real major defects with the Evo 8's or 9's like there are/was with some of the 02 wrx's and others?

Yes bov are bad for evo too. The IX have the same turbo as the 05 VIII (16g) just a bigger compressor housing. Thats the only difference between the turbo

Sorry pimp juice, the 9 turbo is still a 16g, and BOV's are not bad for the evo, I upgraded my stock diverter valve to a forge unit and it holds boost much better during shifts, Problems arise when new evo owners buy VTA valves without tunes. To find more info on these two heavily discussed topics you can utilize the search tool. btw the rex sounds nice with the 2.5

BOV are not bad actually, they are just assumed to be bad by multiple EVO owners because they do not have a tune for them… If you get a tune, you’ll be fine. I will be getting one for sure.

The JDM is out of a Japanese STi. pretty much the most bad *** stock looking bug eye you'll ever see. puts down a tad bit over 340hp but my transmission is aobut to go so i'm gonna sell it over on NASIOC with a JDM STi 6 spd.

yea i meant to say are VTA BOVs bad. i know the whole rich on shifts thing.

but now i have to find a Evo for under 30grand. E2 pay grade ftl.

Oh and what types of EM is pretty much the standard EM for Evos? i know AP's and TXS Utecs are the standard for Subbies

The only EM that people use besides the stock ECU is a full-out AEM EMS.

If you get a IX, there's no reason to change your DV really, unless you're planning on a turbo upgrade.

Yes on the cat, and uh... JDM STi's are still EJ207. (Unless you got a crate motor from an '07)

2007 JDM STi's use the same EJ257 as the US models have always had.

2006 and earlier were EJ207 (2.0).
