very faint ticking sound...

can hardly hear it but it occurs if i get into boost a little bit 15psi or so then let off (its when i let off that i hear the sound, sort of a faint tick, tick tick..) i cant tell if its an exhaust leak??? had a turboback installed about 5 months ago but have only noticed this sound in the past couple of months. this sound also seems to occur more frequenty when it it cold out (30's or so, car is at operating temp)just revving the engine with no load does not re-produce the sound.. its more of an annoyance but seeing if anyone else has had a similar issue

the thing that i think rules out the lifter tick is that it if i open the hood and rev the engine (no load obviously on the engine) i hear absolutely no ticking at all, my old audi 4000cs quattro had lifter tick so i am pretty atune to that sound..

Well after thinking about it all night I'm going to change the oil because, I had the oil changed a couple day ago and it started making the noise when the oil was changed. I also noticed that there was too much oil in the car... I don't know if this has anything to do with the tick but it is worth a shot. zues1 did you get you're oil changed and then it started making the noise?. That's what happend to me, I'll shoot you a P.M. after I change the oil.

Someone mentioned a large screwdriver. Just place the tip of the screwdriver in a an area you think might be causing the tick and place your ear on the end of the screwdriver handle. The sound will travel through the metal shaft and you will be able to hear it at the handle.

I agree. I had really annoying noise everytime I let off the gass. Sounded like generator belt, so I couldn't find a problem. Then I changed my downpipe and cat to have complete TBE and it was gone. It was factory downpipe rubbing against something.

I know how it feels when something is annoying you and you don't know where it's coming from....

Good luck with your find
