Paint chips on fron of car.. urggh
Dude the front of my WW '05 is already peppered with chips. Mitsu doesn't exactly have the best reputation for paint quality. Or maybe it's the number of coats or the cheap clear coat finish. I dunno. I'm debating either repainting the front end and then getting a clear coat, or just replacing the front number with an OEM Evo IX bumper. It's frustrating and neither option is exactly cheap.
Every car suffers the same fate. A thick coat of wax can help against smaller stuff like someone said, but the big ones will still happen. I had my front bumper repainted and it was only a few days before I got my first chip on that coat. Highway driving definitely accelerates the process. Stay far behind cars on the highway.
Easiest way is keeping your distance from anyone driving, especially on the highway. Also keep an eye out for big rigs; if you see one coming either speed up or let him pass quickly. Those suckas always throw huge rocks
If there are contanments in the paint, Aluminum will get rust. (Re: Ford's alum hoos on the Explorers/Freestyles)
P.S. For those of you who are paint savy (re: can paint cars), I'm buying my sealer/base/clear from a shop I used to work at who uses a company called "BASF" (Re: overhauling) and it's only costing me ~$500. If you want a cheaper paintjob, Shopline (also known as Omni) is a good paint company too, and really cheap. I don't know how durable the Shopline is though, but I've painted 2 completes with it, and the cars still look good to this day (1 is two years old, the other is 1 month old). The Shopline is alot cheaper than the BASF - running you about 3-400 for a gallon of blackbase, and clear. Of course, you'll have to prime it too.
