Aluminum doesnt rust, so dont worry about it. You could always go CF, Not sure how much truth is to it but I believe some of the coatings on cf hoods resist chipping more than paint does. I would have to say my VIS has retained its finish excellently.
Dude the front of my WW '05 is already peppered with chips. Mitsu doesn't exactly have the best reputation for paint quality. Or maybe it's the number of coats or the cheap clear coat finish. I dunno. I'm debating either repainting the front end and then getting a clear coat, or just replacing the front number with an OEM Evo IX bumper. It's frustrating and neither option is exactly cheap.
I got 41k on mine and the paint is look like total Buttocks man. I can hardly take looking at it with wanting to punch someone lol. I have been recently planning on setting money asside to repaint it next winter maybe sooner. my also is Tarmac and it is god awful atleast to me

Put a clear bra on as soon as you get it, I got 3 chips bringing it home from the dealer. I had the clear bra put on when it had 800 miles, still got a few that missed the bra, but much better.
Also avoid driving behind anyone when possible.

Ive had my car since 03, almost 30k on it, its in its third winter.... I may have like 1-2 lil chips on the front of my lancer.... All of you must follow people super close. a 3m clear bra would fix the issue. also keeping a real nice coat of wax on it might help a little bit with smaller debris.
I'm a huge fan of the clearbra.
It allows me to drive the Evo the way it was meant to be driven without fear of getting paint chips.
3,500 miles going on and you can barely see it.
