Smoking issue, have no clue what it is, Please HELP!!!!

Well, I just got done with the car. I put on the rest of the exhaust (Invidia Downpipe, Megan TP mated to Megan CB) and then we put on Buschur Stage 2 with the cone filter and Walbro fuel pump. I also sent my ECU to get flashed with a conservative tune. I wrapped the downpipe with exhaust wrap and also checked for exhaust leaks and could not find any. Long story short, I just went out and ran the car, did a few runs and on the way back we started smelling a little something weird, as we came to a stop I could see some smoke coming through the hood, not alot but enough to be able to tell that it was smoke, any ideas?? The temp stayed around the normal temperature and nothing seemed out of the ordinary, just some smoke, it looked like it was coming around the manifold area but am not completely sure because we had some wind. This is my daily driver and I need find out what it is asap, thanks in advance, Carlos

White-ish color we believe. Wasn't dark at all, and it looked like a thin layer nothing to thick looking if that makes sense, I appreciate the quick response.

The oil from your hands will smoke on the exhaust. Also the heat wrap will smoke a bit at first.

No problems... completely normal

Did you spray anything on the bolts, nuts? Maybe its that burning off... The smells comes too from the heat wrap

Not recommended to do - traps mosture and heat between the wrap and metal - speeds up corrosion.

Could also be what is burning/smell.

If these are brand new parts there may be some protective coatings on the metal parts that is simply burning off.

I wrapped the downpipe with exhaust wrap <--- that's the problem, also when you get some oil on the downpipe it might smell in the car for couple of miles, Personally I would take that wrap off the downpipe.

Only sprayed some wd-40 on the bolts to the o2 housing, nothing else. Why would the wrap smoke if it is made to withstand a great amount of heat?? Thanks for the fast responses guys.

its either from the new stuff you added (stuff burning off them since they are new) or grease from your hands or spray that got on the exhaust from loosening the bolts, shouldn't be an issue, drive some more and see if it continues...btw ditch the heat wrap, its not needed...

WD-40 + Hot = Smoke. I am almost 1000% positive thats your problem. Just check yoiur fluids and stuff and then just drive with the smoke for a while and see if it goes away.

Its not his bolts or anything, smoke would be really small , its because the wrap has to burn before it will stick on the downpipe. IT takes time and it will smell -

^^ yep you need to have clean hands if you wrap the downpipe and soak it in water before you start wraping... to stick better. Also you need to clean the down pipe nicely.

I will take the wrap off, I will drive a little bit more to see what happens and to see if it goes away. How long does it take for all of that stuff to burn off?? Also, I did notice that inside the downpipe there was alot of dust looking particles in there. Wouldn't that mean that it would smoke out of the exhaust and not the engine bay?? Thanks again guys.

Definitely WD40. Had the same thing happen to me also. The amount of the thing remaining will dictate how long it will take to burn off. Mine was a lot, so took me ~25miles to completely burn out.
