The timer is fast, meaning it over estimates the time it takes to get to 60?

This means it's 4.31? Or the other way around and 5.31?

I let an old Gallant VR-4 owner drive mine last night, and he just said.."Wow..Smooth power delivery overall, and not NEAR as bumpy as I thought it would be..."

Then I let an IS300 owner drive it and he was like, "HOLY **** is this thing fast!! I don't care for all the plastic, and no power seats, but WOW!!.."(at that point I'm thinking, really dude, how MANY times to you use your power seats.. )

One thing stands true here..

As you own the EVO you get used to it's performance..
If you don't believe me, try the "here..go drive my car and tell me if its fast" experiment..

I personally think the evo is QUICk,,, Not Fast. It is fun to drive and not have to race people. The punch fromm 3k to 4.5k is really all the fun I need for myself. As far as racing peole, I havnt raced anyone ecpect a caddy sts,,,, left him far behind. Then a gst that looked to be modded failry well,,,, he walked me from the get go. After that I was kinda upset for a few hours, pissy. That is why I dont really like to race people because if i get beat, and it will happen it kinda ruins my day, in a way.
Also I like my warrenty, I called A Mits dealer the other day and they said any mod from what Mits has this car set at will void the warrenty. Ya Ya go ahead and say , "but it has to lead to the cause of the problem" all you want. I just dont feel like tap dancing with the Service department for days/ weeks to get a problem fixxed. They even said an open air element would be a factor from what Mits. has this car set to run at, and would void your warrenty. So anyone with any type of mods to thier Evo and have any kind of problems with their car, it will be very interesting to see what happens, and if they would do it over again to have a faster car than what came stock.
So all in all,,, I think the evo is quick,,,,, Not fast,,,, and people will lose races often. But if you BEAT on your evo by huge rpm launches,,,, well YOUR going to pay for if.
I love the looks of the car, it is just not a "SUPER CAR" as some people have said it is. If I had to do over, and the STI came in the wagon version,,, I think I would have waited and at least tested the STi,, This thing is more Muscle Car than the evo is in a straight line,,,,,, and on the streets straight line is 95% of " hey look at how much better /faster my car is than yours" hehehe.
So thats my story. Plus if I had a faster car , without beating the **** out of it, I think I would race more ?????

How can an M3 with no mods have turbo lag?

I raced a guy in a pontiac.
I did not know he wanted to race until he gunned it.
I did not catch him until about 50 mph.
If you don't rev the sh*t out of it you will lose tons of time.

I am not going to rev to 5000rpm hoping someone wants to race at every stop light.

My 2 cents.

Also, if you've got some pics of the car w/o the wing, I would love to see them!

Thanks!

If you are worried about turbo lag, spray some NOS for quicker spool up or go with engine management.

Mods would be less than $600.

I can offer my insight as I came from a 400 hp V8 before the Evo (M5). Yes, there is some turbo lag but even though I drive 12 miles of stoplight traffic to work everyday, it doesn't really bother me. As other folks have said, 3000 RPM hits very quickly and the boost from 3-4500 is awesome. It does die off quickly thereafter so it is actually fun when you are just driving around town to shift a few tics short of redline and then you are still in the meat of the torque curve. I also love that most of the time driving at speed, the RPMs are right around 3000 and the slightest tip of the throttle leads to the lovely zing of the turbo spooling up, telling me I have instant power available. In sum, I have not found myself really missing the power of the M5 and in my day to day commute, I think I have MORE fun in the Evo. Hope this helps. Take the effort to make that extra downshift. It's worth it.

These are two VERY different cars. Why did you swap the M5 for the Evo? You must have chosen the M5 over M3 because of the bigger size, so how could you then go back to an Evo sized car?

I just think of M5 drivers as people who like performance, and have the bucks to have both performance and a nice sized car (it takes a lot of mulah to make a car as big as the M5 as quick and agile as it is). I'm just wondering what prompted you to make the switch...were the payments on the M5 getting to you?

Did you consider the STi, or just the Evo?

I have owned a 97 Supra TT and an 95 M3. Granted, the M3 had much less power then, it use to be most well balanced car I have owned...until the Evo. This thing is tighter than anything I have owned. I have come to like the lag, as it takes the fun factor up a notch. Why else would we own cars like these. BTW...I use my Evo daily on a 27mile commute....great stress relief to and fro work. It was a tossup of the STi and and the Evo. I liked the price of the Evo, but did not like the idea of waiting another 3 months for the STi, when my TL's lease was expiring next month and I heard dealerships would not budge at all on the STis. I got a great deal on my Evo, BTW. In addition I heard Subaru was scrambling about the engine detonation issue. Just my .02cents. Take care and Be well!

I have owned a 94 RX-7 with 340hp. Even the RX-7 had a turbo lag, every turbocharged engine has a turbo lag but if you know how to appreciate the beauty of turbocharged, you will realize..
Comparing it stock to stock Evo might be just a little behind the E46 in stats but once you just dump in a nice reflashed ECU and a catback in the EVO, I think it will chew the E46. A lot depends on the situation and the skill of the driver to handle the turbo lag. But I have already smoked an E46 in my stock EVO on the highway(probably the driver wan't that good) but considering the cost, 30K vs. 55K I prefer the EVO with about 8K spent for audio, wheels and performance. And lastly, having to live in the New England area, where there is a LOT of snow, you can't beat the all wheel drive system in a rear wheel drive even with all sorts of DSC, ASC

When people hint at it being a "Super Car" I don't think they are only talking about what it does in a straight line. Have you had someone try to keep up with you when you gun it coming out of a sharp turn. It's amazing how quickly some cars fall back when you barely lost speed going in and your able to take off while they are losing significant speed just entering the turn. There isn't much beyond a "Super Car" that will brutilize most cars on a windy road. To make it more interesting check out some numbers on an Aston Martin DB7 Vantage (I think some would place this car in "Super Car" status and compare a few figures like the Evo and it's 0-60 and 1/4mile times. If you go by some magazines the Evo is in interesting territory in a few areas. It just lacks in maybe 1 or 2 areas, when you compare a car that cost 6+ digits to a $30k car that is an amazing thing!...Seriously, see who can keep up with you on a windy road though, but don't push it if your not comfortable enough with the car or your not familiar with the road.

Interesting posts...the evo is a very fast car but not unbeatable! I pull them on 9psi. I will say that they are damn fast though... If you are serious about making them a "Super Car" then the warranty isn't a concern. I know i have none! There is so much the evo has to offer than many will never tap into. Hell they are already putting it into the 11's on 1/4 with stock turbo. The abilities are there and far more gains can be had with its starting platform. I'm just about at my limit and while there are some more tricks up my sleevs i'll never get that fast! I'd still consider myself fast and Having seen a supped up evo i can honestly say i've never seen its like! It has my respect most definately!
