Broken down Evo

Hey guys a long time lurker here that is in the market for a nice car in the next few months and the Evo was one of them but I am not too sure now, with all the talk about paint issues, interior rattles, transmission issues and then yesterday I was on my way back to Athens GA when I saw the second Evo I have ever seen and it was on the side of the interstate with the hood up and broken down. I am not posting this to blast the Evo or anything like that, but this is more a rant against MMC for bringing over a car that has so many issues. I really want an Evo, but every which way you look at them, they are having some type of problem. We deserve better than this for 30k! The Evo is really cool and it would be the best car for the money if these issues did not arise, but now it just has too many issues to mess with for me.

I think you are reading about some isolated problems here and infering that everyone is experienceing said problems. I know of at least six Evos in Minneapolis and none of them have any problems that I am aware of. All cars have a certain number of glitches from the factory....

I work for BMW and if you saw the problems we have on $60k cars, then you Mr. Ferrari would rephrase that paragraph. All I have to say is our E46 M3s are throwing rods, oil starvation, etc.

My EVO for one has not had any issues and i can say that for about 10 other EVOs I personally know in the NYC area.

No car is perfect. I have a Camry. Perfect Toyota reliability, right? Well, the 1MZ-FE supposedly has a sludge problem. Know anyone with a WRX? Why would anyone buy one of those with their glass trannys? See my point yet?

Buy the Evo (if you want). That's what warranties are for.

So if I see a car broken down alongside the road I should scratch it off the list of reliable vehicles.

Cool, I'll call JD Power and let them in on this, it'll save em a ton on owner surveys.

He could have been adjusting an upgraded BOV or something. Or maybe he had a manual boost controller under the hood...

I pity the fool who thinks the Evo is less than stellar.

5-10% percent of all cars built will have some sort of manufacturing defect or assembly error(not a user created problem from lack of mateniance)

All I was saying is that I am disappointed at the apparent quality of this car, I have only seen two one of which was on the side of the road dead with a wrecker taking it away, and then through this board hearing about people with driveline issues and paint issues and that CF wing bubbling. I know Mitsu is capable of better and I only wish that they had done a little better with it. I feel that maybe they are going to start to lose some buyers because they do not like the quality issues going on here, this car is a great performance value for the money, but for 30k I would expect that the wing would not bubble and I would also expect the paint to stay intact better than it has, possibly it is too brittle and they should add a little flex agent to it or something, but hopefully this may be the first run problems and it will be corrected in the next run. Like I said before I am trying my to like this car. I have seen a red one out when I run and it gives me goosebumps, but the car needs to be able to go more than a few thousand miles before it has rattles and bubbles and worse a trip to get a new tranny. Did not intend to get anyone mad this is just my oberservation after reading this board.

Dunno about the US Evo but the 7 had a couple of well-known problems. First was a failure in the clutch slave cylinder (clutch falls all the way to the floor and doesn't get back up... requires a little "creative" driving by using left foot to lift clutch pedal), and the second was a manufacturing defect in the O2 sensor that required a recall. Both happened to me and would typically require a tow truck to transport the car. In the larger scheme of things these were really minor issues and were fixed promptly, and didn't dampen my enthusiasm for driving it.

As for the price argument, sorry but it doesn't hold. Case in point: BMW has been getting a lot of flak for their iDrive system. Still doesn't stop people from buying it. Exotic supercars are not flawless either. Bottom line is to just buy the car, enjoy the ride and share your experiences both good and bad, that's what it's all about.

it's mitsubishi quality. What do you expect? But it's not as bad as you think it is. I'm picking my Evo up in a couple weeks. It will have factory warranty. I;ll have part of my warranty voided with a new alarm I'm going to install what the rest will be fine. That's what's warranty's for. Mitsubishi should be quite dependable. The Evo was made from a rally car.
