EVO vs. E46 M3

So i'm pulling into blockbuster the other day and i see my little 19 year old cousin. He complements me on my car, having no idea what it is and the little bastard proceeds to tell me that his daddy just bought him a brand new 2003 M3. the ingorant little ***** then insists on telling me that is car will walk on mine. i highly doubt it.
anyone have any experience with a E46 M3 and an EVO that can give me their imput

Top end highway he'll have you, like above 130mph but everything before that---neck and neck unless it's the twisties and his daddy's $60k is toast. Plus, he's 19 driving skills nada. Don't race him because he'll crash and he is your cousin after all...

Red face EVO/ E46 M3

The bad news is there really close in terms of acceleration, as far as top end the m3 is electronically limited to 150 or so...my evo with just a few mods walks away from those cars to the point where there is no need to run the car to 150 + mph ! so stock evo vs m3 would be near equal ! ! why just the other day on some road in westchester n.y (I 95) .... there was a rally red evo doing just that ! hmmmmmmmm....

...oh almost forgot, I would not encourage street racing ! !

Stock vs stock it would be a driver's race. The M3 handles the corners pretty well also slalom speed are pretty close with the Evo having an edge(70mph vs 69mph). The M3 has an edge in acceleration from the stop and the roll and also in response time since it is NA.

Most likly you would win since he is only 19...unless he is Takumi.

Comfortably walked away from a modded E-46 M3 with a reasonably competent driver at Watkins Glen. This was with brake problems on the Evo. With a healthy car, it would have been no contest.
Cheers,

Take your little 19yr old cousin to a roadcourse and spank him.

At VIR I was able to catch up and pass one quite easily. While I was following him and pushing him hard, he was getting very loose... the back end kept wanting to come around if he got on the throttle hard. If he were a 19yr old rather inexperienced driver, he might have lost it...

So take him to a track, or if your feeling , follow him on some curvy roads and push him hard!!!

Honestly, if you're talking drag/street light races the M3 will probably walk away with it. Even if the quarter miles are pretty similar, once you're at 90-100mhp it just won't be a contest, stock to stock.

Oh truer words were never spoken!..
anyone who thinks an M3 will take an EVO in the canyon is just entirely ignorant of the EVO and has definately NEVER driven one!

The M3 needs a lot of throttle feathering to launch good and get Motor Trend and Car and Driver numbers in the low 13's. Further, if your cousin wants to take off at about 7000 RPM he'll just spin the wheels while you move forward. However, once it hooks, the M3 rips.

Not knowing how skilled you or your kid cousin are at driving (read: drag racing), I would say that if you're really going to run him, you should go for a drag race so that you would have the upper hand on the launch. Even if he granny launches and later stomps the pedal, he will spin the wheels up until the top of 2nd. Feathering the throttle is key in that car.

On the highway, 333 hp to your 271 hp could mean he'll beat you on the top end. But as pointed out above, it seems that your lesser weight would allow you stay neck-and-neck. If that's the case, again, you should go for the standing start to beat him out of the hole.

Try to get it on video so that you could post it up later. Goodluck

I don't think there are many who would agree that a AWD Evo would have the "upper hand" on the launch against a RWD E46 M3. Launching is a RWD cars forte, and we've heard how difficult it is to launch the Evo without slipping or dumping the clutch. Also, the M3 has DSC (dynamic stability control, basically fancy traction control) which will eliminate wheel spin if he gets into the throttle too heavily out of the gate. Of course, a driver who is familiar with the car would most likely turn the DSC off.

I for one find the M3 very SICK! Getting that kind of power from a NA 6cyl. engine is a spectacular feat, and the driving experience of a BMW is second to none. I agree that the Evo is a great car for the money, but I'd be willing to bet that if you could get a E46 M3 with all the bells and whistles for $30K, there would be very few Evo's sold!

That being said, the M3 is over $50K "nicely equiped", so it's not a decision any of us will have to make. My point is that price aside, the M3 is quite sick!

The M3 just looks sick... mechanically it's weak obviously, and if 333 natural means i could blow at any minute, thats weak too!.. People are just over it's problems!(more than a year of this blown engine horse**** now) I don't hardly see em on the road anyway, cuz everybody reads the forums.. And thank god for forums.. cuz maybe the germans will do their friggen homework next time and fix those probs. If not charge less $$$
