Dealer (seems to have) abused my Evo
Dealer (seems to have) abused my Evo
Hi all,
Just picked up my IX after them doing some warranty work. Basically, I found a blemish in the paint on the hood and they said (after 2 weeks of "checking with Mitsubishi") they will fix it. They also replaced my steering wheel because the leather was peeling off at the bottom (the car had only 250 miles when I noticed that).
Anyway, they didn't give me any hassle on the warranty, but here's what happened. They said that Mitsubishi authorized the hood to be repainted and that it would take a week. So I brought the car in last Monday so they could do both the steering wheel and the paint. I didn't really complain too much (although I was a little upset that the hood was going to be repainted), and I didn't even ask for a courtesy car since I have another car.
So, a week goes by and I called them today to see the status. The guy says the car is ready and to come get it. I told him I couldn't get there before the service dept closed, so he left the keys with sales. I went in to get the car and I found the following issues:
- I noticed the car had an extra 30 miles on the clock. The paint place (3rd-party) may have been 15 miles away, but I will have to check.
- My fuel light was on. I'm pretty sure I had a 1/4 tank at least, so they'd have to have driven relatively hard to use it all within 30 miles, but I could give them the benefit of the doubt.
- It looked like someone had tried to pry my boost/voltage/oil temp gauge panel (the standard one that comes with the MR)! The top right corner was slightly bent up. Easily fixed, but why was it like that??
- My CD player had one of their CD's in it (they forgot to remove it, obviously)!! I gave them my car to resolve some issues - not listen to music. I didn't leave the face of my CD player in there (aftermarket Alpine), so I have no idea how they used it. They might have just put the CD in without the face hoping it would work. I'm pretty sure I had a CD in there, and that is nowhere to be seen
So those were the telltale signs... Then to top it all off, they didn't even paint the hood! All they did was wet sand it then buff it! The problem seems to be gone (need to check in sunlight tomorrow), but what on earth were they doing with my car for ONE WEEK????!! I mean, it's great news for me that they didn't paint it, but what took so long??
So, what would you guys do? They did no "lasting" damage (hopefully! They could have thrashed the engine hard, when cold, then shutdown immediately with no cool-off time
) , so I could let it slide. I would like to know how far that paint shop is, and what took them a week though...
Comments?
Thanks!

next time you take it to the stealership, take a picture of every little detail of your car before you get it serviced, get it notorized on the back. When you see anything fudged on the car you show them the before pictures. But that's if it's something majorly wrong with the car. From what you are describing, I would just walk away, it ain't worth the hassle.
So what did they say when you gave their CD back? Good luck, last time I took it to the stealership, they couldn't figure out what was making a noise near my dash, took them all day. Fixed my self in 5 minutes. Mitsubishi service is a scam in my own personal experience. Wish you best of luck buddy.

i would never take my car back to the dealership for serivece.... I'm sorry to hear you noticed those things, it would have bugged me so much I'd go back in there and chop everyones ballz off...
Ahh, I hate hearing this. I don't trust anyone with my cars. I took mine in for an alignment, and they insisted they had to road test it to check for pulling....I said fine, but i'm going in the psgr. seat. They tried pulling some liability BS, I then reminded them that the car is insured in my name, so I'm going....Period. (I went) :=) Yeah, I want to hear their reaction to the CD too.

Wow that sucks I would def. go back to the dealer and ask the wtf is up. Especially since they didnt even paint the hood and they still had your car for a week. I would be all discreet about it and ask where they get their cars painted. Then see if its really 15 miles away. The CD thing is a little creepy too.
I absolutely don't trust paint shops (or any other shop, for that matter). When I took my 03 Eclipse GTS directly to a paint shop to get it repainted under warranty I had a casual conversation with the manager. I told him that I was going to trade the Eclipse in for an Evo as soon as it was done being repainted. "We had one of those in here not too long ago. Man that car is soooo fast!", he said. As it turned out, my Eclipse had 8 or 10 miles more on the clock when I picked it up. Maybe they needed to drive it to make the paint dry faster
If I ever need to get my Evo repainted I'm going to have to take a week off of work and spend 24/7 at the shop making sure they don't **** with it. Either that or install a hidden camera.

That makes sense to me. When I had a stereo installed in my old RS, I spend the day there to make sure the car was not driven. The installers were very excited to work on an Evo and wanted to call me when they finished. No way!
i got into an arguement at pepboys. they said they had to road test it to see fi they are ballanced correctly. i had to threaten to go somewhere else to get her to make sure the mechanics didn't drive it lol. your evo is like your tooth brush, you don't wanna loan that out.
This is why anytime your vehicle is left at the stealership, you state in writing that "under no circumstances do I give anybody permission to drive my car, not even the service manager"
write the mileage down, tell them of the horror stories you've heard, and be on your way.
