To be clear, it is possible to drive on the Advans in the snow (I've tested it), just very slowly, in a straight line, braking long before the need to stop. This kind of defeats the concept behind having a high-performance machine.

You've already proven you can bleat a good story - how about some links or trophy pix?

I'm not sure how I can do that outside of a closed-course competition. [
This is the Internet Era - if you've done anything worthy of note it's posted somewhere. We're breathlessly awaiting those links.

If you're serious about it and you live in my area, I'd be happy to compete in my GTI again in whatever you have. Shoot me a note and we can make arrangements. If it rains or snows, I'll even spot you 2 seconds, given an average time greater than 1 minute.
The beauty is, I never claimed to be a good driver (like you). That doesn't mean I'm not but I don't feel the need to criticize others without full knowledge of their skills. Further, MY experience tells me anyone who gloats without proof is nowhere near what they think they are.

In short, you're foolish to make such a bet (it IS a bet, right?). How much would you like to put on it? Money, I mean. Give me a number, send me proof that you actually have that number and I'll bring my 250 enduro shifter kart to your area. The conditions will have to be dry and the track can be anything you want so long as it's paved and smooth (you DID say "whatever you have"). Oh, and I'll take those 2 seconds you're offering because YOU ARE GOOD.

I'm awaiting your sputtering, excuse-filled reply...

What car were you going to get? If this didn't happen?...
I'm guessing... Bmw?.. Since you mentioned something more luxury?

This is carzy! sure advans arnt the best but i ran my first 8 on those for a little than got winter tires, car was fine. and now on my 9 i still have the advans and they are fine in the snow, sure they arnt the best but if you drive within the conditions your fine, they turn, they brake and they accel. stop flipping out on a guy for his tires that was not in anyway the cause of the accident. If he had winter tires and a car came blasting through he would have hit the brakes and slid anyway, no matter what ...Snow+slamming brakes=sliding.

You've attempted to make your point many times and been rejected. Get used to disappointment.
Ummm... cj8718, I am not taking sides; however, only being armed with what information has been posted what I believe FJF is simply trying to imply is that it’s expected of experienced/educated drivers to acknowledge the driving conditions and adapt his/her automobile and driving style to match the current road & weather conditions. Using deductive reasoning, Evolution8Blue being an experienced/educated driver, would have done so by slapping on winter tires (even if just one day) or found another vehicle to drive. If Evolution8Blue’s intention was to sell the car why would he risked taking it out on a slightly snowy day on Advans? Manufacture does not reccomend that tire below 45*F.

On the other hand FJF, please understand that in the course of a day any given person has many important decisions to make and because we are all human misjudgments do occur and a portion of those misjudgments do result in unintentional problems (some involving our precious Evo). Not to mention that sometimes we can’t avoid all accident, including but not limited to teenagers running stop signs and making us t-bone them. Please be more sensitive with regards to generalizing.

If any of my written assumptions have been in error, I am truly sorry and mean no disrespect; furthermore, please correct me but do it in manner befitting a civilized forum member. Remember why we are here. We’re here to celebrate ownership of this awesome ride and maybe learn a few things from each other. Evolution8Blue started a thread to inform us of his tragic incident. There is nothing wrong with sympathizing and advising him to ensure this won’t happen again. Perhaps others could/would learn from his thread. Can we be done with this now? If people want to unleash tension and rage on others, they should rent some paintball guns and find an open field. Lets get back to topic please.

Evolution8Blue keep us posted on what happens buddy and BTW keep the Evo… why drive anything else, that is unless you plan on getting an Enzo or Atom (not recommended for Minnesota winters - damn).

Sorry, links to what? I've never won a thing, given the competition in my area.

This is the Internet Era - if you've done anything worthy of note it's posted somewhere. We're breathlessly awaiting those links.
I've already offered to run against you and I stand by my comment.

Fine, take me up on my offer.

In short, you're foolish to make such a bet (it IS a bet, right?).
No, it's not a bet. You asked and I answered. The ball is in your court.

How much would you like to put on it? Money, I mean.
You're joking, right? I drive for the love of it; it's not a pissing contest. If you win, you get to tell everyone how you beat a pompous ***. If I win, I doubt you'll hear another word about it.

Give me a number, send me proof that you actually have that number and I'll bring my 250 enduro shifter kart to your area.
Let's keep things in perspective. Come down, put a car on the track and let the chips fall where they may.

The conditions will have to be dry and the track can be anything you want so long as it's paved and smooth (you DID say "whatever you have").
1. I have no control of the whether. What's the matter? A guy who bragged about driving on the Advans in the snow is only willing to run on a dry surface? So much for your claims.

2. As this is a car forum, I'll run against a car. Please don't play games.

Oh, and I'll take those 2 seconds you're offering because YOU ARE GOOD.
I'm far from God, but I'm willing to test my skill against yours.

I'm awaiting your sputtering, excuse-filled reply...
No excuses; just play fair.

At the risk of pointing to the obvious, the car has a steering wheel. Slamming the brakes isn't always the best way to go (generally speaking).

BMW are nice

Evolution8Blue:

Yeah... BMW's are nice, like thaigleshmk said. I wonder how much you can get for the Evo should you choose to sell it (don't do it). I've driven quite a few bimmers and they are nice; however, difficult to find a bimmer with similar value that will match the level of performance the evo has. They do make awd bimmers but I don't know if their drivetrains are as nice and the . Anyone out there know the firgures?

No kidding...

I've already offered to run against you and I stand by my comment.
And in your words: "whatever you have". Guess you're now qualifying your ridiculous challenge.

Fine, take me up on my offer.
Done. I'm not going across country w/out costs (at the very least).

No, it's not a bet. You asked and I answered. The ball is in your court.
You're so confident let's make it interesting. Beating the likes of you isn't nearly enough to keep my interest. Hell, my ride has half the hp or your GTI...

You're joking, right? I drive for the love of it; it's not a pissing contest. If you win, you get to tell everyone how you beat a pompous ***. If I win, I doubt you'll hear another word about it.
Just another sputtering excuse (as I prophesized)

Let's keep things in perspective. Come down, put a car on the track and let the chips fall where they may.
I'm no driver... in fact, I probably suck. Does it bother you that I'll kick your narrow behind in a race that YOU instigated?

1. I have no control of the whether. What's the matter? A guy who bragged about driving on the Advans in the snow is only willing to run on a dry surface? So much for your claims.
I doubt even YOU are stupid enough to race in snow (I'm certainly not unless I'm on my ZRT). Way to try to fan the flames but I can DRIVE on Advans in the snow just fine... most mature people can. What's YOUR problem?

2. As this is a car forum, I'll run against a car. Please don't play games.
Games? You're the one with the big mouth/small brain... I'm the one that called you on your stupidity. You wanna go or not, Big Mouth?

I'm far from God, but I'm willing to test my skill against yours.
A painful admission, I'm sure

No excuses; just play fair.
You made the rules, Hotshot... I'm just calling you on your Bee Ess. This is nothing more than a shining example of how you mouth off before you think. Some lessons are more painful than others.

Bend over and bear down, Son... this one's gonna hurt.

Evolution8Blue:

Would installing heated leather seats and bigger cup holder convince you to keep the Evo? I don't think it would be hard to pool EvoM members together to rally up some funds make it so. However, I refuse to work a bake sale, that is unless I get to personally taste ALL the baked goods first. Ya know, for quality assurance reasons.
