Well I dont know why the idle would be different but maybe your getting knock and/or misfire at rpm when the gap is widened which would cause your ECU to retard the timing, which would subsequently cause your car to make less power. Hmm my car idles poorly, I wonder if my spark gap is too tight? Interesting.. I think I'll check that out.

get a friend to gap it for you two different time (different gapping or same) and see how it feels. lol

seems like it all in your head though

unless you need to be tuned...or you can be knocking, which will make you pull timing

hmmm this is what I have heard, that maybe your blowing out your spark due to it being to big of a gab, try moving the gap down to 26!!

I would try finding out what was originally causing the poor idling before changing around a carefully engineered gap size.

My friend, there are too many variables in your predicament to quantify the true source of your poor performance.

Perhaps it would have been advised to have used an accelerometer, pre & post mechanical alterations to clearly gauge any performance gains or losses. Take note for any future maintenance projects.

Also, please clarify your definition of “slower”. By slower were you implying poor acceleration?

Yey!

Nice job on the scanned image ak47po that answers the question of proper plug gap. Hopeful that solves the engine problem. If the re-gap of the plug doesn't work I would resort to drinking a 24-pack of Redbull and ditching the Evo
