I was unaware that there was a problem with the IX tranny. I thought it was 03-04? Mine is pretty smooth (after it warms up)

mitsu just replaced the syncros on my 05 MR. (3rd,4th,5th). They made me sign some paperwork that said if the parts came back with hotspots on them... i would have to pay for the repair. I signed and they couldnt find anything other than factory defect. It took them 4 weeks to fix the car because they broke parts putting it back together. They did install my clutch and flywheel for a nominal fee of 100 dollars.

I've had to baby the shifts and double clutch alot in order to keep from grinding. 1200 miles later I was fed up and took it to the dealer to hopefully with my fingers crossed find a cool service rep and get it fixed. I think I lucked out and got a good tech who has been with Mitsu since 96. Young guy, into modding, and knew about this issue on evos. I drove it, then he drove it. Basically said 5th gear was shot. 3rd didn't act up like it usually does. And my gears were warmed up because I ran the car for an hr. prior to bringing it in. He said he would take my word for it and order all new synchros for gears 2-5 and order a new 3rd and 5th gear. They ordered all the parts today and my appt. is next Tues. They said they might need the car for 2 days. Overall I'm pumped.
--I was just so damn afraid of the dealer denying my claim after reading all the horror stories on here!
Quick question??? Will there be any break in period after the fix or will it be good as new right out of the box?
Congrats youve done the impossible

i wouldnt worry about braking in the new syncros.. althou dont BEAT on the gears.. u dont have to take it easy.. shift slow for about 500 miles.. but u can take it all the way to 9k if u want

SO do you think you could post the name of the dealer? Did it happen to be on East Bell Rd?

From what I've heard and experienced, you just have to talk to the right people.

Just don't ask them to replace your syncros again! You might not get so lucky next time.

Yeah, what the hell. Bell Mitsu. Bought it from Mark Mitsu but that is a long way from my place. Bell is right down the street. I was woried about it being a Van store and getting it covered because I didn't buy it there. I lucked out cuz the tech was so cool. Glad he's doing the work.

I really think being in the car business helps me out alot.

I was able to get the dealer to do the TSB (synchro replacement) on my car too at no charge. As for mods, all I had was Swift Springs and wheels...no power mods.
