Smile Mitsu replacing my syncros!!!

I bought my evo IX with 10,500 miles. I regreted not getting a new one from the second day after the purchase. 3rd gear grinds, 5th grinds, all the gears are crunchy and sometimes won't accept my shift. I've had to baby the shifts and double clutch alot in order to keep from grinding. 1200 miles later I was fed up and took it to the dealer to hopefully with my fingers crossed find a cool service rep and get it fixed. I think I lucked out and got a good tech who has been with Mitsu since 96. Young guy, into modding, and knew about this issue on evos. I drove it, then he drove it. Basically said 5th gear was shot. 3rd didn't act up like it usually does. And my gears were warmed up because I ran the car for an hr. prior to bringing it in. He said he would take my word for it and order all new synchros for gears 2-5 and order a new 3rd and 5th gear. They ordered all the parts today and my appt. is next Tues. They said they might need the car for 2 days. Overall I'm pumped.
--I was just so damn afraid of the dealer denying my claim after reading all the horror stories on here!
Quick question??? Will there be any break in period after the fix or will it be good as new right out of the box?

Just don't drive like an idiot for a while--I haven't specifically heard about breaking in the syncros but wouldn't hurt to be cautious

Break em in before you really run it, they need to be nice and lubricated to make sure they last long

I guess I'm happy it's gonna be fixed but I hate the idea that the tranny is gonna be taken apart.

If you're planning on modding your Evo, I suggest you get a clutch in there (if you can) while they are doing the syncro work. It will save you a lot in labor. Good luck!

Believe me, I thought about this too. I figure while they are in there and have my car in pieces might as well put a new clutch in. I'm not at that point yet. The stock clutch shows no signs of wear. I wanted to get the synchros fixed now so I can start modding the **** out of this thing. After the mods they wouldn't want to touch my car....!!!!!

my 05's 5th gear grinds only from high rpms, took in to the dealer and they said they would have to take the transmission apart to look and see if it was the synchro even though it was obvious, then they said " if there are any signs of abuse the synchro replacement will not be covered by warranty" so i figured its only from 4th gear boost to 5th and i dont need to do that to often so i figured i dont want a rebuilt tranny and didnt waste my time.....my experience with mitsu warranty and the synchro

Maybe because I let them know I'm in the business. I sell cars for Honda a few miles down the street. Or I just lucked out. They are definitly aware of the problems with our cars though.

Good to hear that they will fix the syncros. Best thing would be for them to give you a new tranny.

Our Evo is hard to shift when the engine is cold. We've taken it to the dealer and they said that they could not duplicate the problem.
