How good are Yoko Advans?
the Yoko A028 is the stock tire from the NSX a few years ago... i think they grip like hell, but no way am i going to shell out 300 bones per tire... not to have them only last 7000 miles...
i wish that the A046 would be available in an 18" size... i would love to stick with them, but it may have to go with the S03's... even after all the bad **** some of you guys have been saying... but they've never failed me in the past...

yes, the 046's are obviously incredible, and VERY predictable when pushed, but the only problem is that they fit the stock wheel, and don't come in 18", or am I mistaken? I would love to put the 046's on my new rims.
The stock advans are absolutely amazing. They are nothing short of the R-compound's that I have used in the past IMHO. I am definitely keepin' em no matter what. BTW, how much DO they cost?
I had the chance to take a close look at both a set of Advans on a friends Evo and a set of Azenis on a modded Scoobie WRX wagon after a track day. Both cars were pushed to comparable limits and driven equally hard.
The Advans were showing the pebbly surface texture that comes with surface melting; the Azenis were showing wear, but no melting. You could smell the Advans from about 3' when the Evo came off the track.
By no means conclusive, but very interesting.

I just had 2 screws removed from my tire today. When they had the car up in the air I went back and spun the other 2 wheels, then looked at my fingers!!!!!!!!! OMG, the looked like I dipped them in black paint, this rubber is really soft. I could blew the top of the black off and the part under that was like sticky tar.
I too want a longer lasting tire when these wear out. Im not a hard core street racer and I might even like to go with an all season tire. But from what I have read on any all season tire some say they should be called "no season" tires???????

those michelines are pretty good too providided your camber and alignment are squared .the michelines that i have on the back of my car have been there since '99. at this point i think i should change them only because the rubber compound has probably cured but they look fine never the less. falken are good too as long as you don't abuse then too much
So how many miles are the Advans supposed to last? Of course, this is excluding track events and doughnuts everyday. I'm talking moderately driven on dry road.
The Michelling Pilot Sports on my M3 is still showing lplenty of life after 12000 miles. 250 of those miles were driven hard around a track.

Have you guys heard much about the new Nitto Neo-gens? They are fairly new and I haven't read any reviews on them. I have Nitto NT450's now, but don't think they would be nearly as sticky as the Advan's.
Any thoughts?

Can't believe no one has mentioned the Toyo T1S. Fantastic tire. This is the same tire that is Spec in the SCCA Speed Challange Touring series. They are expensive, about $275ea, but these are true UHP tires. Wear rating of 280 and AAA grip.
If you can find the Yokohma ES100 in stock, they are great tires as well. Yokohama are on par with the Toyo's. About $210ea. One thing to remember, once you get into the 18" size, you are talking $200 plus per tire. As I've said before, you get what you pay for, so why trade off, $150 now for a having to buy a new set much sooner from some less espensive tire who sells only on price.
As for Nitto, the new on looks pretty awesome. Nitto is a subdivsion of Toyo, so I'd expect the tires to be pretty good.
One last thing, the A028 is an OEM for sure, maybe an Aston Martin or NSX I'll have to check the Yokohama spec book at the shop.
