UDSM vs JDM Exhaust

Guys I need your help..... I am thinking about buying a Fujitsubo Exhaust and Downpipe for the JDM Evo8. HOwever, I know that the USDM bumper is a little longer than the JDM bumpers. Does anyone know how much longer the UDSM exhuast is compared to the JDM one? I want to get a custom test pipe long enough to connect the downpipe and exhaust to its correct position. How long should my test pipe be? Has anyone installed JDM exhaust on the UDSM EVO 8? I read some people used spacers, but i figured since I will get a custom test pipe, I rather have a longer test pipe than adding extra pieces.

i'm not entirely sure, but i think you need to extend the JDM parts by about 3-4"...

contact vivid racing if you can...

they installed a JDM JIC exhaust on their EVO, and had to extend it...

I do not think the longer test pipe will fix the problem. As you indicated, the extra length is required due to the bigger US bumper. That increase has to be added after the muffler. I'll bet that the exhaust hangers are positioned in the same location on both cars relative to the engine and chassis. Due to increased manufacturing and assembly costs, I would be very surprised to find that changed the way the exhaust is mounted on the US cars. Following this logic, the additional length should be found after the rearward most muffler hanger indicating the need for a longer tip, not a longer test pipe.

Dont get the Fujitsubo exhaust!! Its not a full 3". They have resenators that are 2 1/2 inside diameter . Get one from http://www.ultimate-racing.com/ or http://www.buschurracing.com/ . Both of there is a full 3". Plus its cheaper

If you get one from Ultimate, make sure they send you gaskets, hardware, directions and plan on either cutting your O2 sensor to make it fit OR move there mounting point for it. I just installed one on a Silver E8 and had to make the gaskets, use my own bolts, and move the mounting point for the O2 so it would fit. They suggest cutting the O2 wire and extending the wire(dont like that idea) . Other than that, I was a real nice piece. Cleared all the support braces under the car with out spacers.

Maybe I'm wrong, but wasn't the problem people were having with the length of exhaust systems because they were trying to put an exhaust for an E7 on an E8??? I think the design of the JDM and USDM bumpers for the E8 are the same. Its just that when you try using an exhaust for an E7, the length comes up a bit short because of the new design. Thats why Vivid, and others were coming up short. Exhausts designed for the 7 are just that little bit short, giving you a black, burnt bumper. Again, I might be wrong here, but thats what I remember hearing.

You need to ensure that at least your cat-back and test pipe is 3" in diameter. Your downpipe should be no smaller than 2.5" and most people opt for 3" all the way back from the turbo. I chose to go with a 2.5" downpipe from HKS because I will not be upgrading to a larger turbo in the future, and 2.5" is already a .5" larger than stock.

If you need your exhaust right away ... you should take gvr4v's advice and go with one that is already built for evo 8. JDM exhausts are more of pain because they require some custom work to fit .... as well as finding an alternative for the o2 sensor (no o2 bung available). For systems that are a definite easy fit and solid performers right now ... you should consider Buscher, Ultimate-Racing, Vishnu, and RMR. Or .... you can opt to put together your own personal favorites for each piece like I did .... HKS downpipe, RMR test pipe, and Thermal R&D cat-back. If you must have JDM ... you can either try some custom work or wait till some of these Japenese companies start making more parts available for our USDM evo. I'm almost 100% sure that JIC and HKS will have cat-backs ready very soon for the USDM 8 ... not sure about the others though. Good luck!

Original problem was from trying to fit EVO VII exhaust to US Lancer Evolution before EVO VIII parts were available. Now that the EVO VIII has been released, the problem persists because the EVO VIII rear bumper is not the same as the US Lancer Evolution.

Well I plan to get the super ti but have a custom downpipe made.
After doing alot of research and debate, talking with lots of companys everyone seems to agree that fujitsubo makes a really, really mean exhaust. Even if its not a full 3" design. They make NOTHING but exhaust. I have heard nothing but good things from them plus on weights aoub t11lbs *I think*
Fujitsubo rocks
