Service Engine Light is on

I just bought my 06 Evo IX today and the "Service Engine Light" is on. It was on at the dealership, but the guy said that it would go away. Someone else told me that perhaps the dealer forgot to flash the car to get it ready to start learning how I drive. Does anyone have anything to say about any of this?

disconnect your battery and then reconnect. the light will go away. if it comes back on, then you need to get your ecu scanned because of some issue you might have

Yeah what the guy told you at the dealership was complete BS. No way should you purchase a brand new car and leave the lot with any warning lights on. Perhaps you need to disclose the name of the dealership so others will be warned when going there of such false suggestions.

I know subys have the CEL light on from the factory until they go through the Pre Delivery Inspection where the techs clear them or whatever procedure they have

Why are sales people so stupid? A new car should not have a check-engine light on. If it does, it will not resolve itself. I will quiz people on the cars I look at before purchases with basic information that I already have knowledge about. That helps me sort out the BS salesmen from the ones who actually know their product. Sometimes, it's enough for me to walk right out of the dealership if they are outright rude or plain poor liars.
