Wingless = Better MPG?
#66
Yes, wingless should give you better gas milage. As i understand, the Evo is a wing, not a spoiler, thus it is creating an aerodynamic force and not just reshaping the exit flow. Thus the wing is creating drag, not parasite drag from an actually physical item being there, but induced drag due to the creation of an aerodymanic force. Anytime you create lift (or downforce in this case) you are creating drag, just the fundamentals of fluid mechanics. Induced drag can be a much larger force than parasite drag. So if you delete the wing, you get less drag, and less drag is a BIG factor when talking mpg, especially in a car that has as many sharp angles as this.

Wow off topic, but yes, the Evo wing is there for downforce, however downforce gives drag because it gets in the way off the air TO direct it. That is why the Veyron has to have the wing DOWN to get to 252 MPH as the drag aspect is less beneficial than to have the downforce.
In effect on the Evo, unless your consistently being at 125 mph through corners, it will save you money in gas by getting rid of it.
