Basically, but the Evo is a ton stiffer. They welded it much more solidly probably by halving their welding interval and they added a strengthening bars here and there.

both are on the Cedia (sp?) platfrom - but like neilscully said the Evo has quite a bit of reenforceing in it, which is nice considering the US Lancer is already pretty stiff & sturdy.

i am not sure about the exact answer to this question , but i do remember a while ago that i read in a magazine that the evo was more than twice the rigidty of the regular lancer ( that's a staggering 200 % ) , another thing is that the evo is AWD with a rear differential and the lancer has no rear Diff , so probably the entire chassis and wheel base is different. i do remember also that the welds of the different parts of the chassis were different leading to the huge rigidty advantage.

Since EVO I, the EVO was development on the Lancer Platform. However, like everyone has said, Mitsu didn't just take the Chassis and leave that alone.

Other than the Chassis code, tons of reinforcement/spot weldings were added to add strength. In additional. the body panel for the rear portion is different as well in order to fit the rear transfer case...

You might want to check out the Evolution Encylopedia, here:
https://www.evolutionm.net/features/...anevo&id=20&s=

or mirrored on http://evo.jedinite.com here:

Lots of detail on the Evolution, including the differences between it and the Lancer chassis...
