I agree given same driver.

but my point was the driver matters more than what car is being driven.

but you'd be surprised what a E36 M3 will turn on the track in the right hands.

my neighbor in his E46 M3 was turning in 1min 46seconds with DSC on.

anyone else here turn in 1min 46second times at Laguna Seca? I know I wont even be close to his times no matter what car I'm in.

No one here is against BMW's especially when it comes to M3..
Everyone knows it's a good car, both speed/handling, and almost everybody 'd love to drive one...
at least I would...

It's just SAD to see how other ppl are critizing a car they barely know...

When there exists a car that has a slight chance of being better than yours, you appreciate, not babbling around like a bunch of amateurs..

Shame on them...

I agree and I'm not condoning what the E36 M3 guys were saying. Rather lets be more mature about it.

I find that there are ignorance in every message board that I've been to/post at.

I've never driven on Laguna Seca in real life, but I bet I can do it on GT3.

haha

Yeah not all of us are fortunate enough to race on tracks especially with a daily driver.

Laguna Seca is killer with that decreasing radius downhill turn... at least it is on GT3. I brought my car to a track event at Texas World Speedway over the weekend and the Evo did quite well. I would say that M3 owners were the largest minority there, and there was an E36 owner who knew everything about my car and even about evolutionm.net, he said that if he were to buy another car, he'd get an Evo for sure. The car did quite well, brakes held up and temps were quite low considering the 102 degree ambient temperature.

The best thing that happened over the weekend was when my instructor took me, my girlfriend, and one other guy on a few laps around the track during an expert session. The car was amazing, he had the car sideways (former rally driver) through turns without any sense of losing control, and we even passed a 996 turbo in the turns. All with four helmets in the car...

A friend of mine just bought himself an M3 convertible the other week and was really excited when I told him that I got an Evo. He wants us to race, but he freely admits that I will probably beat him. If he had the coupe, I'm sure he would have me, but the convertible will make it a much better challenge. Stay tuned!

We'll probably keep our racing limited to the dragstrip. But there is the possibility that we might find a "road less traveled" to do a little testing. But I'm really not into any kind of street racing. I'd rather do my high speed driving in a controlled environment.

I owned a 1999 BMW M3 and it was a great car, but the Evo is a much better handler and had more explosive acceleration when the turbo kicks in. The M3 is a better daily driver for people in Michigan and other places where the roads are terrible though. The Evo in Michigan was a little stiff for me since every road seems like one big expansion joint. All in all, the Evo will beat my E36 M3.

He wanted the SMG, but the dealer sold the only one they had with it a day before he bought his car, so he had to "settle" for the 6 speed instead. :P
