Is alky bad for open track?
Hey guys,
I was just talking to some people and some suggested that putting alky in the car for track events might not be such a good idea... I just wanted to make sure, I'm planning on going to Mid-Ohio for NASA events, but am about to get alky installed and get tunned.
Basicly the belief is that you can run out, because it will be 20 min. sessions each time. I never had alky, so I wanted to hear what people with methanol have to say about the track....
Thanks

I run 100% meth on the 20 minute sessions and have never run low or empty. Some worry about the "sloshing" I have the windshield tank and have yet to have a problem. Just make sure you top off before each session.
Why not run race gas and a race gas tune?
Unless your fuel system craps out, in which case running racegas or pump gas wouldnt make a difference, you are taking far fewer risks with equal or close performance.
Theres a reason why none of the time attack evo's run meth....

I understand the benefits of running akly/meth (lower cost, easier to find), but it's just not as foolproof when it comes down to it.
you will be fine. i know many people that do so. warrtalon tracks his car all the time and runs consitent 26psi on the track all day.i will be doing the same. we need warr to chime in here. he is one of the most knowledgable people on here.
Scorke has alot more track experience then warr. Just get a good tune for 100 or 110 what ever you plan on using.
this talk is all good but what happens if you are tuned for meth and your pump overheats and fails... you dont relize it and your doing laps for a 20 min session with 13.1-14.1 afrs ......what do you think happens next??
not worth it get a seperate tune for race gas for the road coarse and have a meth tune for the street.
Simple as that. You can run meth on the road coarse but its not smart, and just because other evom members do it dosent mean its smart.

People can do what they want. I run alky instead of meth, and I maybe use half a tank in a 20-min session, so volume is not a problem. I like not only having the power increase but also the cooling effect, which is very important. Not having to pay the gouged race gas prices at the track is quite the cost savings, and I have a wideband right in my face as well as an indicator light on the alky controller in case anything goes wrong. To top it all off, I am not tuned to the edge like some people who run alky and don't race or who only drag race. I run non-max boost with a small nozzle (7), with low 11 AFRs, moderate timing, and low ramp rate on the progressive spray.
I do agree that if you can get a 100-104oct tune and can get around 30 gallons of it for a weekend without paying $6-7/gal at the track like they normally charge, then race gas is preferred due to lesser risk, but for someone who already uses alky on their car daily, alky is still a useful tool on track.
