Securing a laptop in the car for race?
i was thinking about this the other day, and honestly i was considering having my friend come up with me, register as a co driver, and just hang onto to my laptop for dear life. haha.
hehe.. just stumbled across this thread.. I've been datalogging my 20-25 minute track sessions for a school project I'm doing. I start the logger, put my laptop in a backpack, and seatbelt the backpack in the passenger seat through the backpack's shoulder straps. You can lock the passenger seat belt by pulling it out all the way, and letting it retract. You'll hear a winding sound coming from the belt when it's locking. Viola! No need to waste money on an expensive mount!

i don't think your standard police car can pull as much G's as an evo with sticky tires on a race prepped coarse.
Try this guys and its even removeable - https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=171165

well, this is what i came up with today. it move side to side about .5" but doesn't move forward or back work. it feels secure and i don't think it will fly off during cornering or braking. i tried it on the passenger seat but the seatbelt buckle was too high and the strap didn't really hold the laptop down. i tried putting the laptop in the case and strap the case down but that didn't work either.
i just hope it will pass tech at tomorrow’s scca event. maybe i'll go up to tech without the laptop.

^^^ That looks incredibly dangerous for AutoX. Best case scenario is that the laptop goes flying and cracks the LCD screen or case. Worst case scenario is that the laptop goes flying and injures you. I hope they didn't really let you run like that...
Out of all the suggestions, marksae's strapped-in backpack idea sounded the safest. That should pass an SCCA Solo tech inspection. You are right that heat might be an issue in the bag. But as long as you open the bag to ventilate between your runs, you would be fine.
I cannot imagine that an SCCA Safety Steward would let you pass tech with one of those laptop stand deals that mounts it right up by the driver though...
