i checked the lap top after each run and it didn't look like it even moved a milimeter. i did a total of 3 runs.

Out of all the suggestions, marksae's strapped-in backpack idea sounded the safest. That should pass an SCCA Solo tech inspection. You are right that heat might be an issue in the bag. But as long as you open the bag to ventilate between your runs, you would be fine.

I cannot imagine that an SCCA Safety Steward would let you pass tech with one of those laptop stand deals that mounts it right up by the driver though...

Flying laptops sound better than impailing yourself on a black iron pipe from home depot!

Get some nylon webbing and some buckles and make a 'laptop harness' that the seatbelt can go through. Should cost lest than $20 and be safer.
