Another Mitsu Warranty thread!!!
Another Mitsu Warranty thread!!!
Well, I just bought my 03 evo about a month ago. I knew my bumper-to-bumper warranty was good till april 24th so I dropped it off last tuesday. A friend of mine dropped the keys off the nexy morning since I arrived too late to do it myself.
So I bring it in with a boat load of concerns.......as anyone would about to go out of warranty! (still have the 60K powertrain!). I tell them the following:
1) shifting to 2nd @ redline quickly and it grinds-feel and hear!
2) shifting to 3rd @ roughly 3500 rpm's slow feel slight grind.
3) when fueling, nozzle shuts off every 2-3 seconds
4) clunk in suspension over bumps
5) throwout bearing noisy-rattling at idle
6) driveline howl @ 65mph and 75-80mph
7) a couple times @ stoplight car was missing and acting like it was going to die-NO CEL.
8) when shifting out of 1st, shifter almost pops out of 1st-when you start to pull it just pops back but doesnt pop out on its own.
9) temp control knob hard to turn
10) brakes pulsate......figured they wouldnt help, but worth a try!
11) 3 wheels are bubbling around the center cap area
So now its been a week and the advisor STILL hasnt called me! I told him to take whatever time they needed cause I have another vehicle, but I was always told (as a previous service advisor) that you should always call your customers EVERYDAY for an update, even if you havent gotten much done.
I have a friend working in a different part of the "auto mall" setup in toyota. He has spoken with the advisor briefly and given me a little info here and there and here is what I have so far:
-they cant verify the 2nd or 3rd gear grind
-the shifter trying to pop out of 1st is something characteristic of the EVO and mitsu has no fix for it......anyone verify this??
-they verified the throwout bearing noise but dont know if its bad enough to replace!
-verified the driveline noise and are waiting for mitsu techline to call??
-verified the wheel bubbling-sent pics to mitsu and waiting for their approval??
-ordered parts for the temp control issue
-brake pulsation not covered
-unable to verify running rough issue.
So at this point I am a little irritated that I havent recieved a single phone call yet even though I have gotten some info. They told me some BS line about only covering the wheels to the original owner, which is crap since the warranty is BUMPER TO BUMPER regardless of whether is had 1 or 10 owners! I am also wondering why they cannot verify any other concerns since I can get them to do it all the time! One more thing, does anyone else have this 1st gear issue and was told no fix for it?? Is this what I should expect from Mitsu everytime I go in for a warranty repair?? If so, the warranty isnt worth anything to me!! If this is the game they are gonna play then I will be calling the customer hotline to complain for what its worth!
BTW, the dealer is a 1hr drive from me which is why I didnt just stop it to see how things were going!

Ive had 2 evos and never had 5) or 3) ever happen, sooo i duno how normal it is. But they should be updating you and thats bs they wont cover some stuff, and saying something isnt bad enough yet to replace, when you take it to them they are supposed to fix it to factory specs. also it sounds liek they are putting the car off till april 24th so then your warranty is voided and they wont cover anything then i duno if they can actually do that but if i were you id be on their *** every day about that car.good luck
Number 8 I've noticed and my car only has 3k miles. I think it's normal. Like you said it doesn't pop out on its own, it just comes out of gear very easily when going to shift. Personally I like it
The gas thing is just because of the design of the filler neck. It doesnt let the gas go down quick enough or it splashes back up on the nozzle shuting it off because it has a saftey on the nozzle so you dont spill gas all over the ground.
It only happens at gas stations where they have a super long nozzle or they have a pump that pumps really quick.
The rattle at idle is likely from an engineering thing either the TOB or the imput shaft on the Trans.
Mine is alot quieter at idle since the aftermarket clutch. Where I replaced the TOB

Thanks for the input guys! I will be putting in a call tomorrow to voice my concerns about the lack of communication and my thoughts on their coverage as well. As stated, I used to be a ford service advisor for a couple years. I remember covering things as major as flaws in paint (supposedly flaws!) where the whole vehicle was repainted as well as a guy complaining about 2 bolts corroded on the inside of the tailgate on his truck that we gladly replaced! I know warranty work sucks for techs and its not the gravy work the advisor or tech are looking for everyday, but its better than no work!
About my car......its 100% stock in everyway. So they better not try and pull any crap on me about that.....I been in their shoes and I know they have no ground to stand on! I also know how important the surveys are that get sent out to factory warranty customer and if they want a good one.......well lets just say they have a lot of work to do!
The things people are saying are normal.....I just dont think I am going to accept this answer on the major items. The fueling....fine, no biggie. But the throwout bearing?? The trans grinding and possible t-case? NO way!! They will be fixing it or I will be on Mitsu's butt until these issues are resolved!
BTW, I found TSB's for the climate control knob being hard to turn and the clunk in the suspension already in case anyone was wondering! Apparently there is a revised blend door assembly and different control arm bushings for the clunk. FYI!
