First thing came to mind was maybe a dimmer switch turned all the way down/off. Never seen the "newer" Evo's to know if they have that feature, but I know some cars will blank out the dash lights when the dimmer is turned down, but couldn't say if that is the case for you. Just a thought...Good luck getting it sorted out

Hey Dan Sounds like it might be the start to the water getting in by the drivers side foot well and getting on the plugs at the junction box and corroding pins.

1. Take off the drivers kick panel by your left foot.
2. There is a few White and A Black connector
3. Unplug the connectors 1 by 1. Do you see any greenish substance?
4. Put your hand on the back side of the connectors and follow the harrnes to where it goes though the inner fender well. Dp you feel any water?

If so there is you problem. I can help you fix it I did mine

I have a feeling it has something to do with your dimming switch. Not directly but maybe follow the dimming switch and see if the wires aren't corroded and such.

Did you have anything installed recently? I've heard of people having issues like this after recently installing any kind of new electronics in their vehicles and tapping into the wrong wires. Just a thought..
