Car A 3250lbs, 271hp, Agressive gearing =13.4 +/- quarter
Car B 3250lbs, 271hp, Normal gearing = 14.2 +/- quarter
Agessive gearing will make a less powerfull car faster.

I've done just gearing on my mustang and 3 tenth is all you'd get.

As of horsepower my car dynoed at 240 with the intercooler spray on on a dynopack. Running at 101.7mph it has more than 271hp. I'm thinking 288-291 on the fly.

Seems like the STi is making consistently more when dynoed same place same time, so unless both manufacturers are lowballing the numbers, I'd say it's pretty accurate. Of course, that doesn't mean you can't flash the ECU or unbolt the exhaust and say screw it to the factory numbers!

What I'm curious about is the apparently significant variation in the output of stock Evos. I've seen it mentioned by Shiv and others, but I haven't heard an explanation yet. As a stock class autocrosser who's not allowed to do much to the motor, such knowledge could be very helpful.

Anyone?

has anyone had their car on a dyno yet? If so can you post the sheet? I am curious.

The most commonly used dyno in the US, the Dynojet, read around 240-250 at the wheels, which, when you use AWD drivetrain losses into account, it is well over the 271hp rating Mitsubishi has said. Besides, there's no way a 3260lb vehicle with 271hp can do low to mid 13's, can it? It has to be underrated.
Actually, I think Dynojet numbers range more around 220s-230s whp. Only one person saw 236whp on a stock Evo at our recent Dyno day. All others ranged from 214-228 or so:

Cars were running that day had octane levels between 93-96 so that wasn't an issue.

That's true. I've never seen so much variation in a stock car before. We had Evos ranging from 214-236whp... that's a lot!

With everything being equal...I would be hella pissed if my car made 214whp as opposed to 220 and up.

With a car that is boosted so heavily, atmospheric conditions will affect power output. And probably in ways that a dyno will not be able to correct for.

Personally, I consider 10 to 15 hp to be in the noise.

I was....it was mine...actually it made 218 whp....although even this figure was a far cry from 234 seen from one evo stock....there is certainly something suspect about so much variation in whp...I have heard rumours through a reliable source...that it was the cam timing that was wrong....and Mitsubishi repaired some but not all before they were sold when they arrived stateside......if this is true...how do you think I should go about being compensated....or do you think it would be too difficult to prove?...or should I just suck it up for now and hope for a recall?

Is there a standard or a norm for HP claims ? That is if a manufacturer claims X HP, then out of a batch of 10 units tested, all should be greater or equal to X, but none should be below.

Or is it sufficient to be X plus or minus 10% ???

If it's the plus or minus, then you're probably out of luck, if it's greater than or equal ( NOT less ), then you have a claim.

Anybody know what the actual situation is ?

Anybody know about Mazda and the Miata low horsepower ? What happened in that case ??
