my old maxima kinda sounded like that at one point. it was when i didnt do the brakes on time and the piston that usually pushes the pad started grinding into the rotor since the pad was all gone at that point. i'd suggest checking that. same symptoms and everything, louder as you get slower, quieter with more weight (passengers) in the car.

A release bearing will make noise in gear, out of gear, idle, whatever so long as the clutch is not depressed. I am not 100% that this is the cause, only saying it sounds like it. This can still be ruled out for the most part for the simple fact that it goes away when stopped.

Unless there is something stuck on the pad and rubbing against the rotor, that doesnt sound like brakes either. Pad to rotor contact simply doesnt sound like that, unless the brakes are worn down to metal.

Yup - good point on the release bearing.
And agreed, it doesn't have the high pitch of a typical worn pad, but if the rotors were gouged, or warped, it could make that sound. I still think its brakes - but I'm still not 100% sure the noise I hear is the noise he's talking about.

Well the car has 6,000 miles on it. I've put 1500 miles on it since I got it and the sound was there when I test drove it. However, with my friend and the salesman in the car, the sound went away after about 30 seconds.

Now when I'm just in the car, I can hear it clearly all the time without the radio on. Usually when I'm driving to work or wherever I have the stereo cranked. The brakes seem normal when I'm braking during DD excursions to work as well as getting a little spirited with the car in the back roads. I've never felt grinding or unusual brake response.

I'm planning on having a tech drive it from the dealership this morning to see what they say. I'll definitely bring up what you guys brought up here. I really appreciate everyone's feedback (with the exception of those who wanted to post nonsense).

Helps me a lot knowing I'm not insane!!!

I listened to it a couple times. It almost sounds like a belt thats squeeling a little or something.

This is an idea. Id get up to the speed u were before. ~20-15mph and either push in the clutch, or turn the engine off. That way u can atleast determine whether its from the engine or your brakes or whatever. Then id go from there. Nice part about turning the engine off would be you could here everything a little better.

Thats my .02 sooo..

GL man.

NO! All it is is road noise....your tires and road noise reverberating within the cabin. Get a luxury car or fat tires to get rid of it.

if you have to turn up your radio quite a bit to hear it.. i think it could be excessive RFI coming from spark plugs..

i watched the video and didn't hear anything wrong...
