Name That Decel Noise! (PLEASE)

I have recently noticed some strange decel noise. I had done numerous things including a clutch install this last winter. All fluids were replaced with factory DiaQueen fluids. It only does it on decel. My clutch is a Exedy twin HD on a 6 sp MR tranny. It goes away on decel when i push in the clutch and does not happen when i take it out of gear. You can hear it better if you turn your bass down

Sounds like it is the clutch upon decel. I just had a customer car last week that had an Exedy HD Twin that made that noise on decel and cruise, deffinitly bad in my customers case, but yours does not sound as severe, and I have heard that it is common on decel for this clutch.

But its hard to tell exactly from the video.

he's running a 50 trim, so he has the power for the clutch. in fact, i have about 70 horse less and don't hear that kind of noise on the same clutch

It's the clutch. I also have the exedy twin in my MR, and it makes the same noise.

its the clutch. I had the Exedy Twin and it made alot of noise on decel. Just put in an ACT single plate and the noise is all gone.

I have a ACT HD with a Pro-Street lightweight flywheel and mine does the same thing. I think this is somewhat normal with an aftermarket clutch. From all the threads I have read through over the last couple of years, they all say(or most say) if it was the Transfer case, the noise would be somewhat constant regardless of how you drive(if I'm correct). Also, if it is only on decel it could be a transmission issue as well. Mine does this if I Decel in 4th gear (while letting off the throttle.) If I hit the gas it will go away. Have someone who knows Evo's drivetrains very well take a ride in it and see what they have to say, if you can find anyone close.

Its nice to hear that its a common noise, I thought for sure something was wrong with my clutch. I had an ACT clutch put in a couple months ago and I didnt notice the noise till a few weeks ago. (I really need to turn my stereo down )

Sounds like the TC, like the beginings of the death whine. Twins normally make more of a rattling than a whining. If the whining gets to the point that it is loud then you need to call shep and get a new tc.

My twin disk makes a nice rattle, on top of that I have the old decel noise. I Installed the twindisk at the same time I replaced my Tc. All three are distinct noises.

Decel noise is a tough to describe rattle, Twin disk is a more obvious rattle. TC on it's way out is a siren like whine or howel when on light to no throttle.

Drain your tc and look for shavings.
