Question about Stock HID cut off

I own an IX MR. The car came with factory HID's. When I park my car infront of the garage to look at the cut off line for the HID's, I noticed it created this straight line.. 45 degree angle.. straight line cut off:

At first, I thought it was an issue with the Right headlight being set a little higher then the Left headlight. Then I decided to take a closer look. I blocked off the headlight beam by standing infront of each of the headlights and noticed that BOTH headlights create this straight line... 45 degree angle.. straight line cut that looks like :

Any reason for this? Any thing I can do to create a straight like cut off?

My GSR SE does this too. My only "guess" would be that it's made for the Japanese drivers that drive on the right side for better visibility.

I forgot to mention that my brothers S2000 does this too so it's not just our japanese cars.

I don't know if there is anything you can do to change it but the reason for this is so the headlights are not as bad for the person coming the other way. I would assume they do the opposite in Japan and the left side of the lighting would be higher.
Doing this makes the part that is pointed at oncoming traffic not as high so it is not so bright and in the face of the driver going the other way. While the side that is not pointed at oncoming traffic is a little higher to give you better visibility. If your headlights are set up correctly this should be the case on non-HID cars as well.

Another reason it's designed like so is to better illuminate road signs which are typically located on the right side. Unless you live in Japan or your road signs are located on the left side, the cutoff line for our headlights are correct.

Yeah; that's just how headlights are designed, to accomodate oncoming traffic. Not a defect.

yes, and from what i hear, when you get JDM headlights they are opposite. so i'd say it's to save the oncoming traffic and beter illuminate signs on the driving side of the road.

Not too thread hijack.. as your question has been answered.. but what about us guys who ordered jdm housings.. How do we change the pattern to not blind oncoming traffic? Is there a diagram for the "housing leveler" (multi pin plug in on the back of the housings) Can we jump power to each light individually to adjust them to achieve the us oem pattern?

i'm pretty sure the only way to change it is to get USDM projectors for your JDM housings. i am pretty sure it's the actual projector lense inside the housing that dictates the cutoff line.

theres a metal sheild between the bulb and the lens in the projector shaped just like that... hence the cut off... and ALL projectors have that... lexus, acura, chrysler, bmw.... etc etc. some with a 45 degree angle and some with a bigger angle like 80 degrees... the only thing to make a straight cutoff is to modify that metal shield i gues....

It's not a problem, my car does the same thing. So does my Audi and Mom's Lexus. Every car with HIDs, you would notice similar traights between the cut-offs. Since we drive on the "right" side of the road, the right beam is higher so we can see better, say on a 2-lane road (trees, rocks, etc.). The left beam is lower so you don't blind on-coming traffic.
