This is what you want:
http://www.duplicolor.com/products/shield.html

Comes in either clear or black. Costs about $8 for a can. You spray it on, so it's much easier and quicker than putting painters tape on. Then you wash it off with regular auto soap and water later. Supposedly does not come off if it rains.

haha every time i drive between denver and ft worth i have always covered the front of my cars in blue painters tape. makes a good story for you to talk about while the cops are writing you a speeding ticket
i had a blue painters tape mask on the way to toronto last week. green tape on the way back (canadian brand). got pulled over in buffalo. ridiculous.
guy went to the front of my car with his clipboard and just stood there looking at it for a whole minute.

You should have tried to outrun the cops or drive the Camry which would not have stood out
.Get a clearbra; one of the best investments for an Evo.

I'm not so sure about this stuff..
...check my sig
I just taped off my Evo on a drive from FL to WV and back. Used the Delicate M3 Painters tape. It only took like 10-15 minutes to do the front, half hood, and mirrors. I'd say it was definitaley worth it. There were so many damn bugs and sand on the tape. If you do it, start with the highest, furthest back part of the car and work your way forward. That way, the tape overlaps so when the wind hits it, the strands of tape will help hold each other on. Had no problems taking the tape off, and it didn't leave any residue or anything on the car.

But where did you get your ash grey evo ix from? Is that a color I didn't know about?
