Look at the glasses he is wearing, no wonder he can't see the speedo!

Try adjusting your column to the right level, that's why it's there.
They don't do that so you can put it all the way down to look cool. Everyone knows that's not the optimal position and it should be set higher. You probably would be able to see it if you adjust the column. just my .02

Jump into an Audi, VW, or Subaru, etc. Then look at the gauages at quick glance. The biggest difference is the contrast, number of ticks and the size of numbers.

Mitu's unbright red on black just does not contrast well, especially in the day if there is any sunshine going towards the gauages.

Again, I don't mind the speedo being small and don't find it that my hand gets in the way, but like I said before, I don't really use the speedo much.

I agree. the gauges are pretty crappy and when you see the STi's then you really see how crappy they are. I like the RPM center stage but the MPH definately should be on the right. Is this because Mitsu cheaped out and brought the same gauge cluster as the right hand drive cars in Japan?

I'll probably never do it, but is it possible to fabricate a new gauge cluster with after market gauges? I would assume that it's possible and maybe easy to do.

I agree that the dark red on black background is hard to see. Even at night, the backlighting is really dim leaving somehting to be desired.

I personally disliked the blacklight blue backlighting in my 337 GTI, but at least they were readily visible. The Ralliart red on white background gauge cluster for the EVO looks much better in my opinion ....but for $500-600 I think I will just have to continue to strain my eyes with the stock set-up.

Couldn't have said it better myself. It's a total pain the **** when you're driving towards dusk. The creme colored gauge faces combined with the backlit red numbers which are a "shadow" type of font (at least in the OZ) completely sucks in my book. Even with the light control cranked all the way up, it's still difficult to see the numbers at a glance in this situation.

Give me some yellow or white needles with actual points at the end, and a sharper, more defined typeface for the numbers and tick marks. Finally, ditch the stupid creme faces and switch them to black.

I mean come on at least put the speedo on the right side.. and all the useless crap on the leftside where my arms block it!!!!!! poor interior design.. .. Some things are just irrational.
TaiwanEvo - You must really love your car! Because you are complaining about a most insignificant attribute of the Evo.

This is actually a GOOD sign as it shows that you haven't found anything major to criticize.

Uhm, how tall are you? I'm a short bastard and the wheel does not feel comfortable anywhere but at the lowest position. I do intend to ask the dealer about a jdm seat mount (i hear they lowered the seat for "taller" us drivers) or something to raise the height of the driver seat a bit cause I can't even see the washer spray nosels (hell I can't even see the hood and I'm 5'7" on a good day) unless the seatback is at 90deg.

On the track this would not be an issue but around town and in neighborhoods where you have to watch out for everything (pot holes, road debris, squirels, very small dogs, cats ......) it can be a pain.

5'10" which I think is average for men isn't it?
I don't have any real problems with vision. I tend to recline a bit too. Be glad your not driving a Vette, you can't see **** of the front of the car and the seats are low.

I hate how my neck hurts from snapping back against the seat when accelerating.

I hate how I have to pay attention on the interstate, as 5th gear plus boost equals triple digits before I notice.

I hate how my face hurts after driving, my smile muscles have serious cramps.

I hate how it feels like my eyeballs are going to pop out of my head when I stand on the brakes.

I hate how every import guy who sees the car asks me to pull over so they can look at it, how every guy walking through a parking lot turns around to stare at the car, and how pulling in at the local cruise night brings everyone's conversation to a stuttering halt as they stare...

Yep, lotsa things I hate about this car, but ya know, I think I'll keep it.
