One thing i absolutely hate about the evo!!!!!
Evo or Lancesr have the worest gauges in the whole world.. I can't see ****!!! honestly!! why do they have the rpm in the middle? and the speedo all the way to the left?? when i drive my hand blocks the MPH(since most of us shift with right hand and we assume i keep a hadn on the wheels at all time hence left hand blocks it all!! all i can see is the rpm!!! i dont' need to look at the rpm when i drive normally, not to mention the lighting of it sucks, and its soooooo freaking small.. I mean come on at least put the speedo on the right side.. and all the useless crap on the leftside where my arms block it!!!!!! poor interior design.. Oh well it not like this car was made to go fetch groceries.. Some things are just irrational. Just needed to vent
More people look at the RPM gauge in the Evo than the MPH guage
. I can now tell based on RMP how fast I'm going. I agree that depending on the light it can be hard to read the gauges sometimes.

I agree that the gauges are a lot to be desired, but the RPM gauge is bigger and in the middle for good reason and thank god.
The RPM gauge is the important gauge in a "racey car", not the speedo.
Unlike you, I don't really look at my speedo, so I would not care if it was the size of the fuel gauge. I just drive with the traffic flow.

If you have problems seeing the gauges, and you wear polarized sunglasses while driving, you might try switching to "normal" non-polarized sunglasses.
As far as the tach being in the center and the speedo not as prominent... welcome to the world of performance cars.
You could do like they often do in race cars and actually spin the tach in its mounting circle so that the engine speed at maximum HP is at the top. This allows the driver to glance and very quickly determine how close the engine speed is to the "sweet spot" -- actually, the stock Evo's HP peak at about 6500 RPM is not far off from vertical...

you should have figured that out before you bought the damn thing
i mean common this is sports car
you have to have some trade offs for performance
maybe you shouldve gotten a g35 or something
thats why you pay attention to EVERYTHING before buy it

I like the placement but I do agree that the Spedo is hard to read. It's pretty small so the marks are too close together. At a quick glance it's hard to distinguish 55 or 65. The real kicker is with no Cruise Control you need to look at the Spedo much more if you're trying to maintain a semi-legal highway speed.
I don't think he's complaining so much about the Tach in the middle, just the Speedo on the left. I absolutely LOVE having the Tach in the middle. That's where it should be if you drive a manual. But I agree that the EVO dash is ****ty, ****ty, ****ty. Why couldn't it look more like the STi, or MazdaSpeed Protégé even. Gauges should be easy to read. I just don't get it.

I wish my Lancer had the tach in the middle, I pay more attention to it than the speedometer.
