Shift Light Pros & Cons
here is the prosport digital tach/shift light i plan on ordering from ultimate cc (evom vendor). i can understand the thought of a 5inch autometer rpm gauge with shift light being rice, but a small shift light cleanly mounted is definatly not rice, and very useful. my .02c

I don't have a dedicated shift lamp on my new car (but then, I've not really raced it yet, only gone for the occasional track day on a circuit). My Apex'i RSM is supposed to double as a shift indicator, but the green blinking thing is just not obvious enough in broad daylight.
If you drag race your car, get a shift lamp. It's inexpensive and it helps to keep your shifts consistent.

It would come in handy when I am at the dragstrip. I usually just listen to my engine to know when to shift, but when a V-8 with cutouts or open headers is running in the lane next to me....I can't hear anything and usually miss a shift. I just don't like looking down at my tach or boost guage when I'm racing.
But, unless it is a very small LED light somewhere out of sight, I won't install one. I don't like A-pillar guages, steering column pods, none of that crud. I like to keep my dash looking as stock as possible.

Hi,
I purchased a Pivot M Shift light from Shop Response. They have the lowest price for $80 plus S/H and Tax for about total $95. Connection was easy and it works on Japanese vehicles, just plug it into the cigarette lighter and push the button to adjust RPM and Lamp intensity. I mounted the 2-inch light on the left side dash mound and ran wires under the steering wheel through a ½ inch hole I drilled out in my cigarette Ash tray. There I hid the 2 -1/2 inch Module and the electrical is plug into the cigarette lighter. Whenever I need to shift at a higher rpm, I just watch for a Red LED light instead of the Tach, otherwise a Tach will work just fine. There are many Shift lights. Most you have to wire into the existing electrical system. In addition, they are more sophisticatedly. Dan has a real good one, if you plan to hardwire. It is also a very low price. People ask me where I got mine and they are really impress, also that it looks so stealth like because the module is hidden in the cigarette ash tray. Good luck on all you who uses them and to the ones who don’t. Thanks to all who wrote in!

During ordinary driving I hardly ever even look at the tach. With a little practice no one should need to shift using the tach just driving around town. Shifting by ear becomes second nature.
I don't drive near redline very often, however, so it's hard for me to shift acurately and confidently by ear at those unfamiliar rpms. Also, if I'm driving that hard I'd rather watch the road than the dash. Things happen a lot faster in an Evo than in a pick up truck. I have a shift light even though I hardly ever actually use it. But when I need or want to slam through the gears occasionally it's nice to be able to watch what's going on around me.
I have no interest in attracting attention to my car from police, rice-boy racers, etc. I prefer to fly under the radar, so to speak. I removed the Big Wing because I think it looks ricey, in fact. When the car's on the road it would take a sharp eye to spot the shift light on my steering column, but if someone does, and they don't like it, I honestly couldn't care less.

Have you ever determined the savings? Not withstanding knowing most Evo owners aren’t concern with gas usage.
One other word about the spoiler. Currently I am working on a new design, with carbon fiber and same hole pattern. Keeping in mind (1) Low key (2) Performance appearances. However I am not in a position to market it.
