They are not called accidents anymore.. they refer to them as collisions.. Hence he collided with the post.. Every "accident" is preventable, like closing the door.. Either way that sucks.. I just got my car back from being in the body shop for over 8 months!!! Dumb suv cut me off.. Took 4 months for a srs harness to be hand built in japan!!!!! IF your body shop is as cool as mine was get all the aftermarket goodies you can.. Unless your an oem only guy.. I got an evo makeover for free!!

My advice is to be vigilant with the repair process/body shop. It's good the owner admitted liability and offered recompense (what else could he say in that situation?), but he may not be inclined to cover the full expense of a correct repair. Just ensure he doesn't attempt to get a deal at his buddy's body shop or (gasp!) Earl Scheib...

good luck

Awd

as far as I am aware ( i am in california) but for smog testing , NO AWD vehicles go on the dyno nor do vehicles with a GVWR over 8500. if you take you car in for a smog and they pull in the bay and start to strap in down ...you need to stop them right then and TELL them is AWD. all they do is a 2-speed idle test and the visual.
the tech might pull a car on the dyno , but after he scanns the VIN , he should know, and even before that the ticket should say what test its going to need.

Body shop estimate is @ $3k so far and thats just to replace the door. They still need to price the interior and the fender

I also talked to the insurance agent of the garage owner this afternoon. I made sure he understood that I wasn't going to accept any substandard work so it needs to be done right the first time. He assured me that it will be so we shall see. I'm having all the money for repairs sent to me so I can sign and release it over to the body shop, that should give me a little more leverage to get it done right.

I figured while its in the shop I might as well take advantage and have the wing removed and the holes filled up like I've always wanted. Maybe I can get something good out of this after all.

update:

I got the car back this afternoon. it was actually done yesterday but I have been sick the past couple of days and didn't even have the energy to walk down the steps let alone drive a car.

everything looks as it did before all this happened. I can't even tell any paint work was done on the car. they wound up replacing the door, interior panel, all hardware and an interior piece. I still have to go back in a couple of weeks to have them install a new slider for the drivers side window because its not going up and down as smooth as before.

Good to hear it got taken care of. Why does it seem that stupid things like this only happen to nice cars? I never see an '88 Escort get damage like this...
