Are the motors in the Evo...

Are the motors in the Evo VIII built to last?..Meaning, say if I were to buy a used Evo 8 within a year and a half to two years, I would be ignorant to think that the previous driver didn't beat on it. Would it be practical or safe to buy a used one without worrying about too much wear on the engine?
Thanks

they are built to take a beating... they have a cast iron block, which holds up well against the high boost levels these things see...

They wouldnt sell it for what they are(excluding the outrageous markup on some ******* dealerships)if it couldnt take a beating. Remember.. this is a RALLY car, that means driving hard...through hard conditions. Of course they are meant to last, but its always good to do a LEMON check on the car make sure nothin was damaged and had to be rebuild/replaced, cause you can jack up any car could you not? :P

No, its a street car, not a rally car. And its going to be more proned to problems if not taken care of just like any other car.
Just like buying any other used auto, if you do your homework and have the car checked out via a pre-purchase inspection you should be fine.

It will be extremely difficult to find one of these that is used but has not been abused in a few years....and you can forget finding one that has not been modified in some way....MO

Speaking just for myself I plan to have fun with the car and at times push it hard...but I don't plan to beat it, and I do plan to take care of it to spec. I don't think all the used ones will be beat on. I also think you'll get people that wante dthe car but are afraid to push it too hard. Like most sports cars you'll get every flavor trade in good and bad.

Yes, you are wrong. The evo is a street translation of a race car. True the race car may share some components, but if you have ever sat in a REAL race car, you will know that they are VERY VERY different from a street car. A street evo is not even close to a WRC car in technology. In a wrc car there is modified front and rear suspension layout and attachment points, modified transmission (differentials and gear box are free to be swapped out), engine intake and exhaust systems are modified, engine position can be modified, the wheelbase can be stretched as well as the track width. To buy a one year old (at least one year) wrc from a works team to privateer it you are looking at close to a $400k investment, thats just for the car.
I dont consider $370k worth of parts to be a few minor upgrades. This doesnt just apply to the evo either. To compare a street car to a race car (professional race car at least) is just laughable. They are nothing alike. True, the evo may have some cool stuff, but it is a street car, nothing more.

If it were a rally car, youd need to rebuild the engine after every time you drove the car hard

My friend Chris has had his 226AWHP Eclipse for over 8 years now, all he does is maintain it, and it runs like a top, this just shows the durability and long life of a turbocharged 4G63 when its properly maintained.
