well see, thats what i thought, and that is what i used. You just said right connector, your write up says left. The left connector had 2 green wires just as you described. I tapped into the one you used and it worked for about 5 minutes as i explained above.

if you start the engine and tap the wire with your digitalmeter, does it still give out a tach signal?

its very small... less than 1v. It seemed like it was a little higher before then but we had the multimeter switching back and forth between ac/dc to check and see what kind of signal it was. I'd automatically assume it was dc but the installer wasnt sure. I am sure however about the less than 1v dc though.

You want to check voltage with the DVM set to AC volts.

Tachometer Sensing
1. You will need an Auto Ranging Digital Meter to test for the correct
tach.
2. Most tach wires are located at the (-) side of the ignition coil. In
some cases you may have to go to the ECU or Coil pack.
3. The Voltage will read (AC), so you will need to set you meter
accordingly.
4. With the vehicle off the voltage should read 0.00 AC.
5. Start the vehicle and at this time the voltage should fluctuate
between 1 and 8 volts AC.
6. Connect the tachometer wire to the yellow/black.
7. Make sure that the Dipswitch #1 is set to the On position.
8. While the vehicle is running press the small black button on the
side of the brain, the siren will chirp once if you have the correct
Tach wire.
9. If the cars parking lights flash 3 times, there is a problem with the
tachometer learning. Wait for 2 seconds and the cause for the
error will be indicated by the number of times the parking lights

it has to be on AC reading 1-8 V AC when you start the engine. if it still flashes 3 times, it will tell you the error code.

i will have to dig back into it when i get off of work, i appreciate all the help you and the few others have chimed in with. I am pretty sure though that it has been still reading low or not enough for the alarm to be happy. Measurements aside ac/dc... if i tapped into the correct wire, ie green with silver markings, left side (white) connector on the cluster, the black green or black red ecu wire or the coil pack, the tach learning feature should have worked. I just may have to pull the brain out again and check that dip switch but i am pretty sure that is correct as well. Again, thanks for the help

mine did not read as high as 8 V AC. I think it just showed a fluctuating reading and so this was it!

any reason why you dont want to tap on the ecu? I tried both the wire sides of the coil pack and the guage cluster on my IX and none works. Finally, I said screw it and tapped it in the ecu and it works now.

I dont remember which wire since it's been a long time. Search the forum for IX ecu pinout and you will find which one.

Just tap it in the ecu and call it a day. I wasted 3 days trying to figure out which wire I can tap because I didnt want to go near the ecu. But oh well, lesson learned.

Good luck

I looked at my service manual and the solid green with silver markings on the "left" connector is #11 or if you count from the left of the connector is the 11th.

Hey man, according to this its none of the wire you mentioned. I dont remember tapping on either of the colors you mentioned.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page there is a link to a pdf file. Look on the second page. I think it's green/white wire.
