IS this a clutch issue?

out of all the cars ive owned ive never had a clutch go out on me so i dont know how to tell if a clutch is bad or slipping here is my problem.

ok i can a 12.60@110mph but the problem is i can not get 2nd gear. when i launch the car it will not to into 2nd gear it bounces off or starts grinding. i have to wait for the car to come down (from the torque 370torque) then it will go into 2nd gear.

ive been told this is due to the stock clutch. its not release properly. another idea ive been told is from the torque the transmisson is moving so when i go to put it in 2nd gear its hitting inbetween 2nd and 4th.

does any of these ideas sound plausible. i dont want spend money on a new clutch if it dont fix my problem. then again a few evo owners are shocked i can do 12.6 on stock clutch. i have 11k miles on the car.

i know i could get some better times if i could get it into 2nd gear.

mods are
BR cone intake.
BR TBE and o2 housing
cossie cams
walboro fuel pump
forge boost controller
was flashed by al and dynoed 370tq 340hp.

Sounds more like a tranny problem to me, like the syncro's in 2nd are bad. Do you have problems shifting into all the gears or just 2nd? If it's only second, I would think it's the trans.

My guess is that your shifting pretty hard, fried your clutch (dumping it) and probably tore the heck outa your synchros.... just a guess though. From what i have heard, 11k for someone dragging their car is pretty dang good.

In my experience, sometimes you can still drive everyday with a syncro bad, it really only shows when your hard on it. I'm not saying that is what's wrong, but that is what I would suspect if it was my car.

well its done it since day 1 of drag racing it. either way im having the tranny rebuilt some time. i just didnt know if it might be a clutch issue since everyone is telling me to get rid of the stock one asap. even all mentioned i need to get rid of the stuck clutch but he wouldnt tell why. (then again he would never answer any of my questions in person).

before you spend any kind of crazy money or perform some labor intensive jobs....
try a different front motor mount. it sounds very much so like a misalignmemnt problem.

What kind of tranny fluid are you using?

If its stock, maybe new fluid may help -GM Synchromesh, RP, Amsoil, BG synchroshift, youhave a lot of choices.

Try adjusting your clutch. If that doesn't help, it's probably the synchro unfortunately. Welcome to owning an Evo tranny...

I have had the same problem, 1st to 2nd feels like you hit a block when you try to shift hard. What I did to fix the problem was a front motor mount and adjusted the clutch a little higher. That should help out with that.

ok let me explain it a bit better if im slowly going from 1k to 8rpm it shifts just fine into 2nd gear or any other time im shifting its fine.. its only when its under extreme torque that it wont go into 2nd gear.
