Very odd boosting problem..
I would check all the hoses to make sure they aren't torn, because you said you had it at a "tee" check the lines to make sure they didn't rip as you removed them because that tends to be a common problem if not done correctly in my experience, but something is leaking, that's a pretty big boost taper
That whistle noise and immediate drop in boost just gave it away. Try to make Warrtalons' job a little harder next time
and as he said indirectly; put the clip back on the snorkel.

It will work, and your permagrin will last for days. I know, because I spent a week figuring mine out, and I figured it out by random luck when a fellow Evo owner asked me why I was using the snorkel without clips...

My car is happy again.. Thats Warr, who knew something so trivial could cause such a headache.. At least I know all my vaccum connections are as good as they can be now..
Man.....Warrtalon THANK YOU. I was having the damn 6k rpm boost drop syndrome and have just spent all day checking for leaks and switching to T-bolt clamps with no luck....and this boost disease started after switching back to the stock airbox from a buchur filter and I never bothered to replace those "trivial" clips...lol well with a little searching BOOM I came across your diagnosis of Air Snorkel Syndrome.....it makes perfect sense...now to take 2 cliips out of the trunk lining and go boosting....THANKS a whole lot again...take care.
