rather than messing with the roof and the cars structural strength, spend money on mods, just a better way to go.

I have the Best Motoring video, where they test the difference between two Evos with and without the Al. roof. Conclusion was that it helped reduce body roll in cornering. They Also showed the manufacturing process of joining the dissimilar metals together. I believe the steel roofs are spot welded while the Al roofs had to be joined together with rivets.

 

Since the MR and RS have the same roof, just save the money for something else.
